We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kristen Lundberg. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kristen below.
Kristen, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose by looking at my life objectively and realizing people were laughing at me, with me and around me all the time. In my teens I made questionably funny films with my friends. When I was 17 my gut was screaming at me to keep going. I awkwardly announced to a few people that I was going to become a comedian. Stand up ensued. YouTube sketches raged. My gut feels fine now.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a stand up violin comedian with a weird acting reel and a heavy visual art background. I aim to bring high art to comedy. It’s for artists who want to laugh at artists for taking themselves too seriously. It’s for people who played an instrument when they were 6. It’s for people who have already seen everything Zach Galifianakis and Maria Bamford did and want to see something new.
Currently I play in clubs, casinos, “fun” parties 😉 art gallery openings, and in random peoples houses.
I also do commercials and aim to bring this creative energy to more dramatic acting because that’s what I’m feeling.
If you’re feeling it too, come see me play!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Skill #1- Be chill about money thoughts. I took this class called the Psychology of Money taught by the Actors Fund and it helped me be at peace with the episodic nature of being a working artist. Instead of worrying about slow moments, I relish them. Last slow season I bought a dragon kite and flew it naked at Deep Creek Hot Springs with confidence. I will always get money and work as an artist, so I act like it.
Skill #2 – Define your value before other people do. My vulnerabilities are valuable. My hyper-analytical judgmental Virgo mindset is valuable. My impulse to find free plants off Craigslist is valuable.
Skill #3 – Learn a new skill. It’ll keep you sharp and confident in this apocalypse.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m looking to collaborate with filmmakers who like to laugh on set and enjoy risk taking. I love Harmonie Korine, Gus Van Sant, Sean Baker, and Taika Waititi. Lately I’ve been drawn to romantic comedy because my hormones are severely imbalanced. My past collaborators would say I can flip from funny to sexy in an instant. Future collaborators will say I’m just plain sexy 😉
