Meet Luis Cornejo

We were lucky to catch up with Luis Cornejo recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Luis, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Over the years, a significant part of my journey in developing confidence and self-esteem has been learning to trust myself. Growing up, I was often encouraged to trust others – family, friends, the church, etc. – but the concept of self-trust wasn’t emphasized or encouraged. This lack of self-trust led to self-limiting beliefs, hindering me from pursuing my passions and embracing my true self. The transformation began when I realized that I was holding myself back from being myself and shining my magic. Through therapy and the support of my loved ones, I was able to work on challenging and overcoming these deep-rooted beliefs. It’s been a rewarding process, allowing me to understand myself better than ever before. While I still face moments of doubt, I’ve learned to navigate through them. I’ve stopped waiting for external validation or perfect conditions to act. Now, I embrace opportunities, explore my identity, and express myself authentically as a proud Queer individual. This journey of self-discovery and acceptance has been crucial, and though the future is uncertain, one thing is clear: No matter what, I will figure things out and continue to grow with an open heart and mind.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and Certified Sex Therapist, I’m dedicated to supporting the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. I founded PsychoSocial Media, a mental health platform, and co-own PsychoSocial Therapy, a private practice. Additionally, I’ve launched Queer Magic Entertainment LLC to merge my passions in entertainment and mental health advocacy. My work in modeling and as a podcast host allows me to explore and express my Indigiqueer identity. I’ve collaborated with designers and appeared on Telemundo to discuss mental health topics. My endeavors are driven by a commitment to visibility, mental health awareness, and authentic self-expression.

As a model, I actively advocate for representation in the fashion and beauty industries, especially for the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. My work in modeling is not just about being in front of the camera; it’s about challenging norms and showcasing diversity. Through my involvement in various projects and collaborations, I strive to bring visibility to underrepresented identities, using my platform to highlight the importance of inclusive representation in these influential industries.

My podcast, ‘Queer Magic,’ is an extension of my advocacy and creative work. It’s a platform where I explore and discuss various aspects of the LGBTQ+ experience, aiming to empower and educate listeners. The podcast delves into topics ranging from mental health to the arts, all through a queer lens. ‘Queer Magic’ serves as a space for both reflection and celebration of queer identities, contributing to broader conversations around representation and inclusivity. A big part of my show includes inviting guests with diverse backgrounds to talk about the magic they are creating whether it’s fashion, entertainment, art, etc.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, the three most impactful qualities or skills have been:

1. Resilience: Facing and overcoming challenges, especially in advocating for underrepresented communities, requires resilience. It’s about bouncing back stronger from setbacks and learning from them..

2. Authenticity: Being true to myself and my values has been key in connecting with others and fostering genuine relationships. This is not always easy because we live in a world that often pushes us to hide, however, I have learned to be very patient, empathetic, and kind to myself as I grow.

3. Continuous Learning: Keeping an open mind and heart while seeking knowledge has allowed me to grow and adapt in my career and advocacy work.

For those starting their journey, focus on developing resilience through self-care and mindfulness, embrace your unique identity and values, and always stay curious and open to learning. These skills will be invaluable as you navigate your path.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always open to collaboration, particularly with individuals who share a commitment to diversity, mental health advocacy, and empowering the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. Ideal collaborators would be those passionate about creating change and embracing inclusive narratives in the fashion, entertainment, and wellness industries. If you’re interested in collaborating and aligning with these values, I encourage you to connect with me via my website, (https://www.luis-cornejo.com), where you can find more information and contact details.

Ways I collaborate: Content creation, event organizing, speaking engagements, modeling/design, workshops, etc.
