Andrew, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
The Path to Success When You’re the Only One Like You in the Room
In life, there are moments when we find ourselves standing alone in a room, distinct from everyone else. These are the moments that truly define our character and shape our journey toward success. From a young age, I discovered that my aspirations set me apart from the people around me. While those in my immediate surroundings were content with the status quo, I yearned for more, and that desire set me on a unique path to success.
My journey into independence began at the age of 19 when I moved out of my parents’ house. By the time I was 20, I had relocated to an entirely new city, far from the familiar comforts of friends and family. This transition forced me to create new habits and learn how to navigate life alone, which ultimately became a cornerstone of my success.
My career as a chemical plant operator, a job I secured after returning from Army Reserve training at 20, introduced me to an environment where my ambitions often clashed with the prevailing mindset. My coworkers were content with their roles as chemical plant operators, but I knew there was more to life. This isolation served as a catalyst for personal growth.
At 23, I undertook a physical challenge known as a Tough Mudder, a grueling 12-mile obstacle course. I spent months preparing, testing the limits of my physical abilities, and pushing myself to see what I could achieve on my own.
However, it was a moment at 25 that truly ignited my passion for self-improvement. Watching a high school friend win a bodybuilding competition opened my eyes to a world where success was entirely dependent on my individual effort and discipline. Bodybuilding required unwavering commitment, relentless training, and a strict diet, all while maintaining the discipline to stay on course when no one was watching. I realized that if I wanted to succeed, I had to be willing to do what others wouldn’t.
In the chemical plants, clean eating and dieting were not priorities for my colleagues. I became an outcast, sticking to my commitment to a healthier lifestyle. This isolation reinforced my belief that to achieve something extraordinary, one must be prepared to stand alone in pursuit of their goals.
The quote, “To do what you have never done, you first have to do what others won’t,” became my mantra. I understood that repeating the same actions would yield the same results. Embracing the unconventional was my ticket to something extraordinary. In bodybuilding, I faced a long and grueling journey, but simple math told me that discipline, consistent training, and proper nutrition would eventually lead to success. It took over three and a half years of unwavering dedication, but I finally stood on the winner’s podium, proving that my years of hard work had paid off.
The key takeaway from my journey is this: the moment you decide to embark on a path less traveled, you will often find yourself alone in the room. That’s because achieving something remarkable requires stepping outside of your comfort zone and embracing the unknown. However, it’s important to note that self-discipline alone may not be enough when you’re starting out. Combining mental fortitude with physical challenges, such as my military training, the Tough Mudder event, and bodybuilding, can provide a holistic approach to personal growth and achievement.
All these experiences have seamlessly transferred into the entrepreneurial world, where I’ve come to accept that I will often be alone in the room. But armed with a clear goal and an unshakable work ethic, I’ve learned that even in solitude, our dreams are attainable.
So, when you find yourself as the only one in the room who looks like you, remember that it’s a chance to stand out, embrace your uniqueness, and achieve something extraordinary. Success often begins where your comfort zone ends, and it’s in those moments of solitude that you’ll discover the true depths of your potential.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My professional journey has been a colorful tapestry of diverse experiences, each contributing to my passion for creative storytelling and entrepreneurship. It all began with a camera in my hands and a desire to capture moments in a way that felt uniquely my own.
I started in photography and videography out of a desire to take control of my creative vision and stop relying on others for photo shoots. This journey ignited a real passion within me for crafting stories through the lens of a camera. This passion led me to explore content creation and product photography, a skill I would later put to use in various entrepreneurial ventures.
My entrepreneurial journey has taken me through every aspect of business, from product sourcing and web design to advertising and SEO optimization. I even ventured into the world of vending machines, where I learned the importance of efficient workflow systems. Ultimately, I sold the vending machine business to a larger company, a testament to the value of the systems we had put in place.
In addition to my foray into vending machines, I managed an influencer group and lived in a content house in Dallas as the business backend person, handling logistics and scheduling. These experiences provided invaluable insights into influencer marketing and content creation, reinforcing my belief in the power of personal branding and entrepreneurship.
On another front, my wife and I ventured into the world of real estate, owning an Airbnb business. This venture has given us a firsthand look into the world of hospitality and property management, further diversifying our entrepreneurial portfolio.
All of these experiences culminated in the creation of Brand Creators earlier this year. This venture represents a new chapter in my journey, one dedicated to helping influencers start and build their own brands and businesses. I noticed a significant need in the influencer community for transparency and genuine assistance. Many influencer management companies focus solely on profits, neglecting the growth and development of the individuals they represent.
I wanted to be different. My vision for Brand Creators is centered on empowerment and education. I aim to show influencers how to become their own bosses, providing them with the knowledge and tools needed to succeed in the ever-evolving digital landscape. Moreover, I believe in fostering direct and positive relationships between brands and influencers. By cutting out intermediaries and ensuring that influencers have a say in their partnerships, we create a win-win scenario for both sides.
In essence, my journey has been a testament to the power of creativity, adaptability, and a relentless entrepreneurial spirit. Whether it’s through the lens of a camera, the management of influencers, the operation of vending machines, or the hosting of Airbnb properties, my dedication to learning and growing has been the driving force behind my success. And with Brand Creators, I look forward to helping others unlock their full potential and shape their own success stories in the ever-evolving world of digital influence and entrepreneurship.
As for what’s on the horizon, we are constantly evolving and seeking new opportunities to make a positive impact in the influencer and entrepreneurial space. Stay tuned for exciting developments, including events, product launches, and expanded services as we continue to empower individuals to take control of their destiny and craft their own brands and businesses.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, I can identify three qualities that have been instrumental in shaping my path to success: work ethic, humbleness, and the ability to self-teach. These qualities have not only helped me overcome challenges but have also enabled me to continuously grow and adapt. Here’s a closer look at each of these qualities and some advice for those who are early in their journey on how to develop and improve them.
1. Work Ethic:
Work ethic is the cornerstone of any meaningful achievement. Nothing worth having comes easily, and the determination to put in the effort, even when immediate results are not apparent, is crucial. To develop or improve your work ethic, consider starting with a physical challenge. Physical challenges are an excellent way to train your mind to follow through on decisions. When you see the physical changes your efforts produce, it reinforces your mental discipline.
2. Humbleness:
Humbleness is a quality often underestimated in its importance. Without it, learning from mistakes and effectively reflecting on failures becomes difficult. Additionally, humility is closely tied to effective communication, as it requires acknowledging that you’re not always right and that others’ opinions may hold value. To cultivate humbleness, surround yourself with people who have different opinions than yours. Engage in active debates, and make a conscious effort to understand their perspectives before formulating your response. Internal debates can also help you refine your understanding and make sure your beliefs are well-grounded.
3. Self-Teaching:
In today’s digital age, the ability to self-teach is a superpower. Formal education is not the only path to knowledge and mastery. I, too, realized that traditional classroom settings didn’t work for me. Instead, I embraced the idea that I could teach myself almost anything by tapping into online resources. To develop this skill, think about a hobby or skill you’ve had to teach yourself or something that wasn’t found in textbooks. Break down how you learned that particular skill or knowledge. Then, apply the same framework to new subjects or skills. You’ll find that once you’ve mastered the art of self-teaching, there are no limits to what you can achieve.
Advice for Developing These Qualities:
– Work Ethic: Begin with a physical challenge, such as a fitness goal. Consistently working towards that goal will teach you the value of perseverance and discipline.
– Humbleness: Surround yourself with diverse perspectives. Engage in respectful debates and actively seek to understand different viewpoints. Continually question your own beliefs to ensure they are well-founded.
– Self-Teaching: Identify a subject or skill you’re passionate about but haven’t learned through formal education. Use online resources, books, and tutorials to teach yourself. Once you’ve mastered one topic, apply the same process to others, expanding your knowledge and skillset.
In conclusion, the journey to success is unique for everyone, but these qualities – work ethic, humbleness, and self-teaching – have proven to be invaluable companions on my path. They have allowed me to navigate the challenges, adapt to new situations, and continue pushing boundaries. By cultivating these qualities and applying the advice provided, you can unlock your own potential and chart a course toward your goals and aspirations. Remember, the journey may be tough, but it’s the qualities you develop along the way that will ultimately define your success.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

2. Web Design: A talented web designer can enhance the online presence of our clients and contribute to the overall success of Brand Creators.
3. Graphic Design: Creative and visually appealing content is a cornerstone of effective branding. If you have a knack for graphic design, your talents could be a valuable asset.
