We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Isabelle GianDomenico a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Isabelle, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I have always known my purpose in life was to help others in the field of health sciences. During my years in an undergrad program, I was considering several fields in the health sciences, such as Physical Therapy and Nursing, but was not sure that either totally matched my goals. From the age of thirteen, I suffered from symptoms of endometriosis. At the age of 20, after becoming frustrated with the limited suitable treatment options available, my chiropractor introduced me to a Holistic Health Practitioner who had joined their practice. After having my eyes opened to integrative health options, I realized that there is so much more to medicine than I had known. I realized how personalized and tailored the field of integrative health is, especially for individuals with challenging conditions to treat. It then clicked as to what my future career would be. During my senior year, I pursued an internship with her to learn all I could about the field. In 2021, I graduated from Worcester State University with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and a minor in Psychology. Then, in 2023, I graduated from the American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS) with a Master of Science in Health and Wellness. During my years at ACHS, I decided that not only my purpose was to help people through holistic medicine, but it also became my purpose to help women with endometriosis. It also became my purpose to give them a voice and power over their health, especially since so many suffer in silence with limited options available to them. I found my purpose from personal experience of years of being “the patient” and feeling stuck without suitable options, which I hope is of comfort to others.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself and your company before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
The slogan for my company is “A New You is Dawning.” The inspiration for this slogan is to describe the feeling of newfound hope and potential new beginnings. No matter where you are in your health journey, I believe that every day is a new opportunity to make a positive change. I suffered from endometriosis from the ages of 13 to 18 without knowledge of what condition I even had. I actually had never heard the word endometriosis until five years into my journey with it. I was told it was part of being a woman and that my symptoms just happen to some women. Well, now I know, it happens to 1 in 10 women, which is the prevalence of endometriosis. A new me started dawning at the age of 20 when I started my journey to holistic medicine. I had no idea the importance of a “root cause” approach, taking supplements for inflammation, hormones, and individual symptoms that I was suffering from.
The entire focus of my business is to provide individuals with the tools they need to attain their health goals. My approach is based on the client’s needs, and what goals they set for themselves. I am here to support them with the tools I have along the way. The services offered at my business, Sunrise Wellness & Holistic Health, include nutritional and herbal dietary supplementation, homeopathy, lifestyle changes, holistic nutrition, hair analysis labs, and CBD products. As a Holistic Health Practitioner, I serve to bridge the gap between traditional medicine and holistic medicine, by integrating holistic changes into one’s traditional medical regimen. Sunrise Wellness & Holistic Health accepts any clients, whether looking to improve a certain health condition or simply looking to better their overall health and wellness.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Caring is the first most important quality in any practitioner or business owner. Clients need to feel that you care about them and that the improvements they make along the way are as important to you as to them. Listening is another essential quality that any practitioner or business owner must have. If the client does not feel that you actively listen to them, then trust is not well established in the practitioner-client relationship. Research is a vital skill to have as a practitioner. Research in any type of medicine is ever-changing. To make sure you always can provide the client with the best information and care, you have to always keep researching. My best advice for anyone in terms of how they can develop or improve on these skills is to put yourself in the shoes of the client. As someone who has been in the position of a patient who has not been heard properly due to a lack of listening, I know personally how frustrating it is. Therefore, I know how important it is to properly develop these skills and qualities.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
The ideal client is someone who is willing to take on the challenge of being in charge of their own health. It takes dedication and hard work to make changes to your lifestyle, including alterations to your diet, exercise, and unhealthy habits. A characteristic of an ideal client is self-motivation, someone who has goals in mind and will do whatever they can to achieve them. Before embarking on the journey of holistic health, it is important for future clients to understand that it takes time to figure out what changes will click and work for them. This is because the field is extremely personalized to an individual and their needs. It is not a “one size fits all” approach, which is challenging but very rewarding in the end.
