We recently connected with Jessica Lee Sanders and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica Lee , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Finding my purpose was very natural. When I am drawing or painting, I feel alive. Time doesn’t exist and I feel at peace. This is how I knew I was meant to be an artist.
Let’s take a small detour – what is something new and exciting you’re working on?
I am a contemporary portrait artist based out of Asheville, NC. I also remotely manage a small Art School in LA with founder/instructor, Linda Wehrli, called Pastimes for a Lifetime. Recently I have been curating for the contemporary art gallery in downtown Asheville called Citron Gallery. Something new and exciting is that I have been using AI to create models for my portraits. This has been a fun process because I can get as specific as I would like with my references.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Determination 2. Passion
3. Enjoyment
Never compare yourself to other artists; you’re on your own journey. Enjoy the process.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
“The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield and Shawn Coyne. This book really pushes the artist. “Remember our rule of thumb: The more scared we are of a work or calling, the more sure we can be that we have to do it.”
