Yasmin, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience finds its roots in the unique tapestry of my identity as a first-generation Pakistani American. From the outset, I’ve grappled with the sensation of being an outsider, navigating the delicate balance between two cultures. Raised in an environment where women are not traditionally considered equals, I found myself compelled to transcend societal expectations and strive for excellence. The challenges inherent in such a background have served as catalysts for my unwavering determination to constantly improve and grow. Every obstacle encountered has been an opportunity to redefine boundaries, proving to myself and others that resilience is not just a response to adversity but a commitment to continuous evolution. This journey has instilled in me a profound sense of strength and purpose, molding me into the resilient individual I am today.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Photography has been my lifelong passion, and after completing my MBA and gaining experience, I launched my own business, initially focused on family portraiture. Over the past 15 years, my offerings have evolved to include Pets, Business Branding, Fitness, and UGC photography, staying attuned to client needs. I recently expanded into underwater photography and pet and lifestyle content creation. I pride myself on a white-glove experience, utilizing cutting-edge technology like drones. Beyond commercial work, my art merges photography with exploration, focusing on humanitarian stories, particularly women, children, and animals in developing nations. Philanthropy is integral, with a portion of sales supporting partner charities. Building personal connections is at the core of my approach, and the most rewarding aspect is seeing clients become friends. My multifaceted business is a commitment to using photography as a transformative tool for storytelling and positive change, both locally and globally.
In addition to my diverse photography services, I am deeply committed to philanthropy. One notable venture is our annual Pet Portrait Fundraiser, where this year we raised$2200 to be donated to 14 different animals rescues. This initiative not only captures cherished moments with beloved pets but also contributes to meaningful causes. Furthermore, I donate a percentage of proceeds from fine art print sales go to our international partner charities. Beyond specific events, giving back is woven into the fabric of my business. I actively seek opportunities to support and uplift our community through various initiatives. It’s a constant effort to ensure that my work goes beyond visual storytelling, making a positive impact on individuals and causes that matter. This commitment to both artistic excellence and social responsibility defines the ethos of my photography business, creating a holistic approach that resonates with clients who share a passion for meaningful and purposeful art.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, three pivotal elements have significantly influenced my success. Firstly, possessing a solid business foundation, thanks to my business degree, laid a crucial groundwork. It’s essential to understand the intricacies of running a business to make informed decisions and navigate challenges effectively. Second, continuously honing my craft and becoming proficient in the services I offer has been paramount. Starting only when you can consistently deliver high-quality results is key to building trust, satisfying clients, and saving valuable time.
The third critical aspect involves strategic marketing. Clearly defining a target market with detailed demographic information and devising a robust marketing plan is essential. Building brand awareness, targeting specific clientele, and guiding them through a well-constructed sales funnel have been instrumental in growing my business. It’s not just about offering a product or service; it’s about understanding your audience and effectively communicating the value you bring.

Invest time in acquiring a solid business foundation, become an expert in your craft before launching, and meticulously plan your marketing strategy.
