Meet Monica Theophilus

We recently connected with Monica Theophilus and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Monica, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my mother. My mother had me at a young age, but that did not stop her from pursuing a higher education and a well-paying job to take of me and my siblings. She would come from work and prepare dinner; once she got us settled and assisted with homework, she would take the time out to study. Even overworked and exhausted, she pursued her dreams and inspired us to do the same.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am an educator, content creator, author, and entrepreneur. I am passionate about reading and writing, so I share my love for both subjects with my students through creative writing, literature, and language arts. When not on a school campus, I attend my consulting business, Kingdom Renewed Coaching, and help my clients with their book publishing process. Stories can change a person’s trajectory and motivate them to pursue a purpose-filled life. Therefore, I started my coaching company to help bring stories to life. I am most excited about seeing people’s faces light up when they see their books published on sites like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. There’s nothing like seeing what you dreamed of come to life before your very eyes. It’s an Amazon journey to be a part of. I released my latest book, Come Out of Hiding: For the Creation Waits in Eager Expectation For the Children of God to Be Revealed. What led me to share my story of coming out of hiding and living in my purpose was to encourage others to be bold about their faith and to embrace their

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three skills of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey were problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration. As a solutionist, I attack problems from a different perspective. Instead of focusing on what’s wrong, I take action by researching, strategizing, and preparing to create a solution. Problems will always occur, but to counterattack them, we need systems and processes to push past them. Furthermore, we must tell ourselves that problems get us one step closer to our end goal, and each problem is something to learn from. Creativity is an essential skill that can only be obtained when we tap into our authenticity. Many people believe social media marketing is over-saturated, but we are all unique and have a different delivery. Thus, our creativity will speak for itself and attract our target audience. I’ve learned that being a lone wolf is the quickest way to self-sabotage oneself. Collaboration and teamwork provide teamwork, but more importantly, it’s a chance to build relationships, learn from others, develop our skills through feedback and constructive criticism, and initiate community. My advice for folks early on their journey is to believe in yourself, always strive for excellence, and surround yourself with people who also believe in you.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
My biggest area of growth or improvement over the past 12 months has been overcoming people-pleasing and living unapologetically and authentically. I’ve learned that I can’t wait for people to applaud me before I produce or create what God tells me. Sometimes, we hide ourselves in a cave for the sake of others. We may be afraid of their disapproval or their perspective of us, but we must overcome those feelings and be bold in who we are becoming. There’s more inside of us waiting to be birthed into this world, and it can create the change we hope to see.
