Meet Andreea Borcea

We were lucky to catch up with Andreea Borcea recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Andreea, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I’m a first generation American. Both my parents escaped a Communist dictatorship and came to this country with very little. Seeing them rebuild their lives in a new environment and become successful really inspired me to never take anything for granted and to work hard. Life will always throw surprises your way, but I strongly believe that luck is the intersection of preparation and opportunity. I dedicate my time to learning so that I’ll always be prepared for anything life throws at me. Sometimes even seemingly negative situations can be transformed into blessings in disguise.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’ve spent over 20 years in marketing, and have worked for both large global conglomerates and small businesses. About 8 years ago, I found that I wanted to be able to help more than just the one company I was working for, so I moved into a Fractional CMO role that allowed me to work with a number of small businesses and start-ups. While I was able to make quite an impact advising and growing these companies, there still existed a pretty big challenge; most small businesses didn’t have the in-house resources to get everything done they needed to.

From that space, Dia Creative evolved to add full-service digital marketing support on top of the Fractional CMO strategy already offered. We have in-house experts in Email Marketing, Social Media, SEO, Conversion Optimization and more. It was important to me that we build a collaborative, supportive environment that breeds innovation through leveraging the best everyone has to offer. I’ve worked in entirely too many toxic workplaces unfortunately that it was important that I created a place people loved to work, learn and collaborate. This also lets us offer incredible service and compassion for our clients- which is rare in the agency world.

From here, especially for our small-to-medium businesses, we developed our flex plan. With this plan, we can stay within a certain monthly budget for our clients (so there are no surprise) but we can be flexible about our focus each month. We pivot our efforts based on where we can make the greatest impact for the brand within the allotted budget.

For our larger clients, where we typically support one or two channels, our diverse knowledge allows us easily to support small, one-off projects as well which come up often but aren’t necessarily a good fit for internal resources.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. How to learn – I think it’s something that’s taken for granted, but learning how you learn is one of the most impactful skills of my life. Everyone learns a bit differently, but knowing how you retain information and use it again in the right circumstances is a super power to help you handle anything!

2. Early adopter – When there’s anything new, I want to check it out. Some things are great! Some things are total busts! But it’s always worth checking out to see if it will make anything easier or more effective.

3. Organization – I’m not naturally very organized, but I think its important to take the time to organize my day, my tasks and my office. I’ve incorporated the pomodoro technique into my day (where you focus on a task for 20 minutes and then take a 5 minute break) and I use the 5 minute breaks to organize one thing, which is a good change of pace.

How would you describe your ideal client?
That feels like such a trick question for a marketing agency! ; )

An ideal client is one that loves what they do and wants to share it with their audience. We take the stress of Marketing and Sales off your plate, so you can do what you do best. And those are the best clients to work with. They know their products or services. They deliver high quality with a customer base that validates that they are the best (nothing sucks more in marketing than having to sell a junky product) and we get to grow their business! We help identify that target audience, identify what makes their offering unique and special, and help them stand out in the marketplace.

We like to feel like we have a partnership with our clients. We start off every engagement working to become an extension of your existing team, adapting to how you work and communicate to feel like a seamless part of your business. With our expansive and extensive experience, we also advise on pitch decks, acquisitions, operations and other business challenges that come up often.
