Irfan , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience is a quality that is essential for success in any field, but particularly in the world of acting. As an acting coach and actor, I have often been asked where I find my resilience. The truth is, resilience is not something that can be easily pinpointed to one specific source. It is a complex interplay of various aspects of knowledge, psychology, biology, philosophy, physiology, and spirituality. Knowledge plays a crucial role in building resilience. Understanding the craft of acting, the techniques, and the history of the art form provides a solid foundation. This knowledge allows me to navigate the challenges and setbacks that come with the profession.
Psychology is another important aspect. Being aware of my own emotions and thoughts, as well as understanding the psychology of others, helps me to adapt and respond effectively to different situations. It allows me to maintain a positive mindset and find solutions to problems.

Biology and physiology also contribute to resilience. Taking care of my physical health through exercise, proper nutrition, and rest ensures that I have the energy and stamina to face the demands of the profession. Understanding the impact of stress on the body and implementing stress management techniques is also crucial.
Philosophy provides a framework for understanding the purpose and meaning of my work. It helps me to stay focused on my goals and maintain a sense of purpose, even in the face of challenges.
Lastly, spirituality plays a significant role in my resilience. Connecting with something greater than myself, whether it be through meditation, prayer, or simply being in nature, provides a sense of grounding and perspective. It reminds me that there is a larger purpose to my work and helps me to find strength in difficult times.
In conclusion, resilience is a multifaceted quality that draws from various aspects of knowledge, psychology, biology, philosophy, physiology, and spirituality. It is through the integration of these different elements that I am able to find the resilience necessary to thrive as an acting coach and actor.

Learning about me is to know my journey
To truly understand who I am, one must delve into the depths of my journey. It is a journey filled with twists and turns, triumphs and failures, and moments of self-discovery. Each step along the way has shaped me into the person I am today.
From a young age, I knew that I had a passion for acting ,The stage became my sanctuary, a place where I could express myself freely and explore the depths of my creativity. It was here that I discovered my purpose – to bring stories to life and touch the hearts of others.

As I embarked on this path, I realized that the world around me played a crucial role in my growth. I sought out opportunities to learn from those who had come before me, I understood the importance of surrounding myself with like-minded individuals who shared my passion and drive.
But it wasn’t just about learning from others; it was also about developing my own problem-solving capabilities. The acting and creative world is filled with challenges and obstacles, and I learned that I needed to be adaptable and resourceful. I honed my problem-solving skills, finding innovative solutions to the problems that arose in life and acting.
Today, I have set goals for myself, both personally and professionally,

Learning about me is to understand the character and the role I have been given to play in the stage of this life. It is to recognize my goals, purpose, and the need for the world around me. It is to understand the problem-solving capabilities I have acquired to help those who are in the acting and creative world.
I have created “Actorism” (www.actorism.com) the character building and role creation learning module for actors, where we learn to build the character step by step and create the role.
Character acts and actor plays, those who learn how to play their roles in life or in front of the camera will become stars.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I have come to realize that there are three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have had the most significant impact. These three elements have not only shaped my abilities as an actor but have also helped me guide aspiring actors on their own paths to success.

First and foremost, the ability to empathize is crucial in the world of acting. Understanding and connecting with the emotions and experiences of the characters we portray is what brings them to life on stage or screen. Developing empathy requires a deep understanding of human nature, emotions, and the ability to put oneself in someone else’s shoes. To cultivate this skill, I recommend immersing oneself in various forms of art, literature, and observing people in different situations. This will help actors develop a broader perspective and a deeper understanding of the human condition.

Secondly, a strong work ethic is essential for any actor. The entertainment industry is highly competitive, and success often comes to those who are willing to put in the time and effort to hone their craft. This means dedicating countless hours to rehearsals, studying scripts, and continuously seeking opportunities for growth. I advise aspiring actors to embrace discipline and consistency in their practice. This can be achieved through regular acting classes, workshops, and self-study. By constantly challenging oneself and seeking feedback, actors can refine their skills and improve their chances of success.

Lastly, instead of acting in your own personality versatility is a quality that can set actors apart from the rest. The ability to adapt to different roles, genres, and styles is invaluable in an industry that demands versatility. To develop this skill, actors should explore a wide range of characters and genres, both in their training and in their performances. This will not only expand their range but also help them discover their strengths and weaknesses as performers.

In conclusion, the three qualities, that have had the most impact on my journey as an actor and acting coach are empathy, a strong work ethic, and versatility. My advice to those starting their own journey is to focus on developing these qualities through immersing themselves in various forms of art, embracing discipline and consistency in their practice, and exploring a wide range of characters and genres. By doing so, they can lay a solid foundation for a successful career in acting.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

Feeling overwhelmed is a common experience for many people, and it can be particularly challenging for actors who often have to juggle multiple responsibilities and navigate high-pressure situations. In such moments, I find that combining meditative practices with acting techniques and exercises can be incredibly helpful in finding balance and regaining a sense of calm.

Meditative practices, can provide a much-needed pause in the midst of chaos. Through meditative practices we can create a space for clarity and self-reflection this allows us to gain perspective on our overwhelming feelings and approach them with a sense of calm and acceptance.

Acting techniques and exercises also offer valuable tools for managing overwhelm. For example, the use of physicality and movement can help release tension and redirect energy. Engaging in improvisation exercises can encourage spontaneity and playfulness, allowing us to let go of the weight of our worries. Additionally, practicing emotional recall or character analysis can help us understand and process our emotions more effectively.

By using meditative practices and acting techniques, we can develop a holistic approach to managing overwhelm. This allows us to cultivate self-awareness, emotional resilience, and a sense of groundedness . You may find that these practices not only help you navigate the challenges of your profession but also enhance your overall well-being.
