We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mike Matli a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mike, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from having a no quit attitude. With my goals , I have a tunnel vision and the end line is my obsession so I can’t quit but honestly is there ever an end line? I don’t think so, I just think there’s a next step in your journey.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I created Stallion Squad Fitness in the attempt to bring people with the same interests together and to offer top quality workout apparel at affordable prices. The best part I believe of the business is being able to be out in the community and meeting different people. I train in powerlifting so it really is enjoyable for me to be able to interact and offer my advice and of course offer my coaching services. We also collaborate with a local gym, Spartan Strength Systems to hold fundraisers for our Veterans which is important to me. Overall I just really enjoy what the Fitness community has to offer. We’re on IG @StallionSquadFitness
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think my #1 quality is self belief. No matter what happens, you always have to believe in your self. Also just be a good person. My Brand is larger than me and that’s something you definitely have to learn. If you want to grow a movement, it’s always bigger than yourself.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I find it important to be able to vent to get it off your chest so you can focus on finding a solution. Everything is about trying your mindset as much as your body. If your mind is strong, everything else will follow. It is important to never get so caught up that you start to have a negative mindset and really start letting yourself down.
