Meet Richard Gillins (DJ Supreme)

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Richard Gillins (DJ Supreme) a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Richard, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I learned my work ethic from my mom, my uncles, and my cousins that I grew up with. They are all blue collar hard working people who strive to be the best they can be.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
As a DJ I love to curate and bring memories and joy to the listener. I have more or less recently pivoted to being more about creating radio and youtube content with my radio mixes. I have recently started an alliance//team to begin throwing events throughout South Florida from Tampa to Miami and hopefully expanding to New York. I also have my own graphic t-shirt brand with my created designs on supremedesigns.sellmytees.com; an internet station tinyurl.com/spinzfm and an event organization Bacchanal Alliance.

Starting January 2nd, I will be throwing an event every Tuesday called taco Tuesday at Truth Eighteen in Tampa as well as a monthly brunch event starting January 14th at Da’ Shrine Restaurant in Tampa as well. My team’s also organizing some events in Broward County.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Media Arts (design, production, marketing)

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My mom was my biggest fan. She help me by my first dj set, my first records. Always encouraged me to do my best and try to be the best. She took me to all my gigs and radio show appearances before I had drivers license. She is my inspiration til this day even though she passed away about 10 years ago.
