We recently connected with Shyane Faith Laas and have shared our conversation below.
Shyane Faith , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I developed my confidence and self esteem through positive experiences. I try to live my everyday life as confidently as possible. I practice positive self talk by acknowledging my personal strengths and talents to remind myself what I am capable of. Setting realistic goals for myself and achieving them helps me gain confidence. Looking after myself and getting the right amount of sleep and the right food intake for my diet. Spending time outside in nature and sunlight makes me feel really good. Practicing mindfulness and meditation has been a big part of my journey on to feeling more confident and having a higher self esteem. From a young age my mom taught me to love my body and love the skin that I was born with. The belief I have within myself and my abilities to accomplish anything.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a model, I model in fashion. I feel like the environment and the feelings we get to feel as humans is the most beautiful thing about modeling. Whether that be the material and feeling of the clothing or emotions we feel and go through as individuals. I have been interested in fashion for as long as I can remember. The feeling of the soft or rough materials, the textures. The meaning behind a piece of clothing from the designers point of view. I sell clothing on Poshmark and Depop, I started my own thrift store and I love it. My brand is called Soul From Love. Brand new or used items of clothing and accessories are posted online for public to buy.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
To be aware is a great quality that I access in my daily life on my journey. To be understanding and none judgmental toward new ideas and new people. To enjoy learning new things as much as possible. Skills like time management and organization really help me to be the best model I can be. If you are early in your journey and are questioning how you can develop or improve on your qualities, skills and areas of knowledge, try learning more about yourself and see how you learn best. You can develop modeling skills and qualities by going to open casting calls, collaborating with photographers, and networking.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, I am looking to collaborate with models and photographers and videographers. I am looking to collaborate with professionals who are determined to get their idea out and seen.
