Meet STEPHANIE MAZZEO

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to STEPHANIE MAZZEO. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi STEPHANIE, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I am lucky to have grown up with a very supporting family. I was instilled with a strong sense of confidence and self-esteem from a very early age. Over the years I’ve tried to surround myself with positive people and have been able to weed out those with a tendency to live under a dark cloud.

Staying upbeat and hopeful isn’t always easy but I have tried to focus on the brighter side of things. I appreciate the journey I’ve been on and the roads I’ve taken to get me where I am today.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
With over 30 years of experience in the motion picture industry, I’ve been fortunate enough to work coast-to-coast providing makeup, on-set hair styling, men’s grooming and special effects on a variety of multiple projects for film, TV, music videos, commercials & more. My career has taken me cross country for countless projects and numerous assignments. I am able to travel and/or relocate for the duration of the project and have a valid passport for travel nationwide & internationally. I am located near an international airport which makes traveling for on location services quick and easy.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I started my career long before the digital era. This meant good ‘ol fashioned networking. It involved meeting people face to face. I learned how to sell my skills and developed a solid network of industry professionals. Personality and disposition are just as important as talent.

My makeup skills were self-taught. When I began, there were no digital cameras. It was all on film. I learned through trial and error. But it helped me advance my talent in a way that no school or class could ever have done. Thinking and working outside the box provided me with techniques that I may never have tried if I had been “shown” how to do it.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
By far the most important book was “The Hair Makeup & Fashion Styling Career Guide” by Crystal Wright”. Filled with no fluff information, Crystal gets right to the point. She tells it like it is. I credit Crystal with helping me advance my skills into a profitable and thriving career.

Crystal’s book provided so much helpful information for kickstarting my career. I have a better understanding of the industry, my worth and how to ask for what I want. I feel more confident in conversing with other industry professionals and am able to keep focus on advancing my career.
