We recently connected with Silvana Barrios and have shared our conversation below.
Silvana, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Believing in myself and trusting my journey are key principles I follow. Breaking down larger goals into smaller, more manageable steps is a strategy I swear by. ¨Make it simple¨ is my mantra. I celebrate even the smallest achievements, recognizing their significance.
Having periodic pep talks with myself keeps me motivated. I consciously set aside my strong perfectionist tendencies, reminding myself that improvement can come later; what matters now is progress.
I view mistakes as opportunities for learning, adaptation, and change. Identifying my strengths and talents is crucial. I excel in hands-on artistry, and my persistence and determination shine through in the face of challenges.
Maintaining healthy habits is a priority for me. Whether it’s going for a run or a bike ride, or making mindful food choices, I understand the importance of taking care of my physical well-being. This balance contributes positively to my overall confidence and self-esteem.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My story started in graphic design at the University of Buenos Aires, where I explored different creative paths. At the same time, I took on various independent projects—designing lamps, making candles, learning bookbinding, crafting handmade paper, and delicately shaping porcelain into timeless pieces of art.
In the midst of blending art, crafts, sports, and working with porcelain, my real passion took shape: capturing my personal journey through travels. I founded June around 2012, creating and designing romantic leather shoes for women. In 2022, I began experimenting with clay. I started doing porcelain as a way to cope with my anxiety attacks.
Now based in San Diego, I’ve fully embraced my role as an emerging artist, reflecting my creative evolution.
June, my definitive venture, is intricately woven with the essence of travel—movement, experimentation, transformation, and learning. It represents my design for women, marked by determined steps, shared values, and a deep commitment to purpose.
I skillfully weave together design, shoe manufacturing and handmade porcelain artistry.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My strengths lie in a humble set of skills that I bring to my artistic pursuits. I’ve found a talent for quick learning, allowing me to adapt and acquire new artistic skills with relative ease. Another aspect I value is my ability to visualize and achieve—I can envision ideas in my mind and work diligently to bring them to life. Importantly, I approach my work with persistence, adopting a “keep going” mindset that guides me through challenges. While I may not consider my skills extraordinary, I find satisfaction in the continuous learning and growth that comes from my artistic journey.
If I were to advise someone on starting anything new, I would offer a concise and practical list:
* Embrace Continuous Learning:
* Set Clear Goals:
* Build Resilience:
* Master Time Management:
* Foster a Supportive Network:
* Don’t loose time in problems jump to the solution
* Celebrate Achievements:
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
