Jiarui, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I draw inspiration from the developmental narrative of bamboo. During its initial stages, bamboo exhibits an unobvious gradual growth, remaining inconspicuous above the soil for a duration of four years. Subsequently, from the fifth year onward, bamboo undergoes an exponential growth phase at a rate of 30-40 centimeters per day. Analogously, a dedicated pursuit of my passions may entail challenges and go unnoticed initially; nevertheless, steadfast commitment holds the promise of eventual recognition.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My childhood dream was to become a psychologist because being able to alleviate some negativity for others would bring me great joy. However, due to various reasons, I didn’t pursue that dream. When I became a fashion designer, I realized I could convey “happiness” to the audience through clothing. My collections may not always be the most beautiful and elegant on the runway, but they never fail to evoke a sense of joy in the viewers. This is the uniqueness of my design.n addition, I am also a street dance enthusiast. I often integrate two different forms of art to present the best effects for the audiences below the runway and the customers.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Firstly, consistently cultivate passion for one’s interests as a driving force for enduring commitment. Secondly, adopt a diligent and thorough approach, eschewing shortcuts in the meticulous execution of tasks. Recognize that each minor undertaking contributes as a foundational brick, essential for constructing a robust structure. Lastly, perpetually engage in learning and self-enrichment. Given the rapid technological evolution in the fashion industry, from initial hand-drawn sketches to Adobe Illustrator and 3D modeling – CLO, staying abreast of contemporary trends is imperative. Beyond mastering diverse technical skills, actively identify and assimilate others’ exemplary practices in both personal and professional realms.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The book “The Moon and Sixpence” inspired me a lot. I also use this book as the inspiration for one of my collections. The phrase articulates the entire narrative concisely: “All over the place was sixpence, but he looked up at the moon.” The protagonist, transitioning from a stockbroker to a painter within the story, mirrors my trajectory, wherein I shifted from accounting to a fashion design major. Letting go of a stable life to pursue everything I passionately love is challenging. This book has given me the courage to embark on my design dream.
