We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wendy Svehlak. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wendy below.
Wendy, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Everything inspires me! As a kid I used to say to myself “If you can’t decide what to play, just pick a color and color your day!” Usually I would choose pink, shocking 🙂 , but something simple can start with strawberry cream cheese on your bagel and end with searching for the pinkest flower or sunset. You just need one small idea or feeling that you choose to follow. I like to help people follow their dreams and realize their full potential. I am not afraid to try anything. I am also not afraid to fail. It is important to ask questions and ask for help. You might be surprised to learn about all the skills that some of your close friends have. Wether its producing movies, designing jewelry, or opening a med spa the important thing is to believe in yourself and follow your heart.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
When I created The Aesthetics Bar, with my husband, Dr. Steven Svehlak, I did so with the intent of making everyone feel better about themselves. As we get older, so many of my friends have expressed concerns about “this wrinkle” or “that dark spot” I realized that with my husbands profession and my ability to recognize needs and trends, we might just have the perfect recipe to help people. Everyone has their own small insecurities so we created a safe and fun place for people to be able to talk about them. Our team of professionals can recommend non invasive procedures like Botox or Dermal Fillers, or even just teach people about better skin care. . I also built a DIY Facial bar where anyone can try some medical grade skin care products to see what works for them. Some of the products I designed are based off popular brands that I think are too expensive. We use similar formulas to make our own line of products that are much more affordable. We also believe in a less is more approach. It is incredible to see how one very small change can affect how someone sees themselves. It can be a real confidence builder. The happiness I see in people inspires my creativity to find newer, healthier ways to make them look and feel better!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When I reflect back on all the different types of things that I have accomplished, I realized that the most important thing is to believe in what you are doing and to not expect somebody else to do it for you. Create a vision in your head and follow it through to the finish. You have to learn everything you can about your vision. Ask questions from people who have done similar things. Read articles, seek information and be willing to scrub the floors if you have to. Be open and honest. Listen to advice but not to the distractors. Treat people with respect including yourself. Don’t forget to pay yourself and know your worth.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is someone who is hiding behind some tiny self perceived flaw. Like under eye hollowness. The person is constantly asked if the are depressed or tired. That in-turn makes them feel tired or depressed. The client will come to see us and just by adding a little bit of dermal filler into the hollow spots under their eyes, we can change their whole outlook. It is instant gratification for the client. Sometimes they cry because they are so happy when they look in the mirror afterwards. There is a new confidence in them now and they are ready to conquer the world!
