Meet Yahya Alshawi

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Yahya Alshawi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Yahya below.

Yahya, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
First and foremost, it’s critical to have self-assurance in your skills and abilities. Regardless of your race, gender, or any other distinguishing characteristics, you have just as much of a place in that room as everyone else. Have confidence in your abilities and yourself.

Second, even if they don’t look like you, forming connections with others in the room might be beneficial. Find something in common with them and establish a personal connection. By doing so, you may be able to lower any obstacles and feel more at ease in the environment.

Thirdly, you should speak up and let your voice be heard. Share your thoughts and ideas, and meaningfully participate in the discourse. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or to seek clarification if you don’t understand something. You have valuable insights and perspectives to offer, and it’s important that you share them.

Finally, be patient with yourself and with others. Change doesn’t happen overnight, and it may take time for people to become more accepting and inclusive. Keep showing up and being yourself, and eventually, others will see the value that you bring to the room.

Allways Remember, If You Don’t Like What’s Being Said, Change The Conversation.

1. Knowledge of the market: In order to succeed in real estate, it is important to have a deep understanding of the local and national real estate markets. This includes knowledge of pricing trends, supply and demand factors, zoning regulations, and other factors that can impact real estate values.

2. Sales and marketing skills: Real estate professionals must be skilled in sales and marketing in order to effectively promote their properties and attract buyers and sellers. This includes the ability to create effective marketing materials, negotiate deals, and build relationships with clients.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The book “Negotiation Genius” by Deepak Malhotra and Max Bazerman is a guide to mastering the art of negotiation, Harvard Business School. Here are some of the most important takeaways from the book:

Separate the people from the problem: The authors stress the importance of separating the people involved in a negotiation from the problem itself. By focusing on the problem rather than the people, negotiators can avoid getting bogged down in emotional issues and focus on finding a mutually beneficial solution.

Identify and understand the other party’s interests: In order to negotiate effectively, it is important to understand the other party’s interests and motivations. By understanding what the other party wants, negotiators can craft a proposal that addresses those interests and creates value for both sides.

Prepare thoroughly: The authors stress the importance of thorough preparation before entering a negotiation. This includes researching the other party’s position, identifying potential areas of agreement and disagreement, and developing a clear strategy for achieving one’s own goals.

Use creative solutions to create value: Negotiators can create value by finding creative solutions that meet both parties’ needs. This can involve identifying complementary interests, exploring multiple options, and thinking outside the box to find a solution that works for everyone.

Maintain a positive and respectful tone: Effective negotiators maintain a positive and respectful tone throughout the negotiation, even when disagreements arise. By treating the other party with respect and dignity, negotiators can build trust and create a more productive negotiating environment.

Overall, “Negotiation Genius” provides a comprehensive guide to mastering the art of negotiation. By focusing on key strategies and techniques, and emphasizing the importance of preparation, creativity, and respect, the authors offer valuable insights into how negotiators can achieve better outcomes and build stronger relationships with their negotiating partners.
