Meet Kev Von Holt

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kev Von Holt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kev, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
My creativity keeps me alive . It’s always been that way .
And to show my gratitude toward the gift of creativity… I keep it alive every single day by devoting my life to the endless journey and boundless exploration .

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Right now I am in the process of reevaluating my creative journey so far … it’s been about 25 years since I started my painting journey and I have to say it has been one hell of a rollercoaster ride .

Back to the days of finding my first art supplies on the streets of Philadelphia while on a trash picking route looking for treasures to sell to the local pawn shop to fuel a once pretty hefty habit of drugs .
But one of those trips changed my life forever … I was scouring the back alley streets behind a theater on sansom st. Philadelphia, when I found a bunch of old theater backdrops of canvas stretched on wood … across the street was 3 trash cans fun of paint .
Well … That was the day .
I hauled it back to my studio apartment on walnut st and locked myself in that tiny place for about a month , playing and painting over and over the canvases I had found . After I went through the whole haul of paint I found . . . I sat back and looked at this collection of 9 works .
I was addicted . I liked what I saw . I loved how I felt . And that creative journey that started that day would come to save my life over and over again til this day that I type this interview .
Fast forward 25 years … and here I still am , doing art , music , photography, and whatever else I want to do to honestly express what I feel needs to come to the surface .
I have my own art gallery / studio for 15 years 5 years in Philadelphia and 10 years in Flemington NJ .
I am thankful and blessed to be traveling this journey on my 50th year in this planet we share .

I am working on a few new collections for a few solo shows in 2024 , to be announced . . .
And am also looking forward to some musical projects and a documentary film project I have been working on with my good friend Tim .
And of course , just pushing my creative journey further in 2024

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Number one was my ability to use my adhd to my advantage and find passions that allowed me to hyper focus with vast interest. Creativity , in all formats and forms has the ability to transform your entire human experience.
And I’m not just talking about painting or playing an instrument… it’s everywhere . It’s how we think and feel … it’s the feeling , the willingness to fall into the unknown ,only guided by a subconscious nagging voice quietly whispering that it knows the way …

That trust … in that voice . Is the most important bond an artist can have with themselves .

Also be YOU . Cliche … yup it is .. but it’s so much easier to navigate this world when you make your own map to the game of life .

Be True . You need to be your biggest fan .. and don’t ever forget just that . Make YOUR art the way YOU can see it and hear it in your head .

Again trust the voice . . .

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m really loving collaborations with interior designers . It’s fun and also adds a new challenges to keep the art exciting and Fresh .

I’d love to connect more in 2024 with creative interior designers who are looking for some one of a kind art and sculpture and photography .
