Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rachel King. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rachel, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I am not sure if I have completely overcome imposter syndrome. For me, I am always trying to be the best version of myself that I can. This means, as I grow and improve professionally, financially, and personally, I find myself feeling unworthy in changing circumstances. However, I have learned how to give myself the grace to feel the feelings of imposter syndrome, but also to remind myself that I am worthy.
I served 7 years in the United States Army. No doubt that being in the Army offered me a whole set of challenges, but one mantra I learned in the military that I still carry with me on the daily is “fake it ’till you make it.” It is possible that I already did this prior to my time in service, and that I honed the skill in the military. No doubt, giving it a name gave me power. Every time I find myself in a situation that has me feeling unworthy, inadequate, or like I am an imposter, I remind myself to fake it till I make it. I put on a smile, and carry on, one foot in front of the other, or one thoughtful word after the next. And it works. Eventually I start don’t feel like an imposter, I feel like I belong.
But then it starts all over again when I reach a new goal.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a lawyer by profession. A Veteran. An Entrepreneur. A Wife. A Mother. A Triathlete. An Ultra Marathoner. A Yogi.
I practice law in California, Arizona, Kentucky, and Texas. My primary location is in Wildomar, California; however, I represent clients nationwide and internationally.
I pride myself on being a fierce legal advocate. I have spent years building a reputation as a fighter for clients’ rights in the eyes of the law and giving them a VOICE in the courtroom. Since opening my law firm, King Law Firm Attorneys at Law, Inc., in 2014, I have been unequivocally dedicated to working with my clients in a way that allows them to understand the legal system, the laws, and the process- to reach their GOAL in court.
I am an approachable lawyer. I zealously represent my clients throughout their cases, ensuring they understand the law, their position in the suit, and the best legal strategy. I am an honest lawyer. My mission is to make certain that each client knows the strongest and weakest parts of their case. I believe that it is my job to be upfront about the benefits and drawbacks of each strategy, settlement, or decision option so that my clients can make an informed decision that is best for them. I am a lawyer with integrity. Honesty, veracity, and truthfulness are central to how I practice law.
I work primarily as a strategic litigator in Elder Abuse (financial and physical) and undue Influence, Family Law, Conservatorships, Guardianships, and Will and trust Contests. I am a participating member of the Financial Abuse Specialist Team in Orange County and work with Laura’s House to assist those in Domestic Violence situations.
I regularly speak on related legal issues. I was a guest on CBS more than once and was featured in LA Weekly as a Top 10 Industry Expert. I have also been highlighted by San Diego Woman Magazine, US Insider, SD Voyager, CANVAS REBEL, and more. I intend to continue to speak publicly to inform and educate in these highly emotional areas of law.
I look forward to continuing my commitment to the legal success of my clients. With my team at King Law Firm Attorneys at Law, Inc., I provide legal representation at a level above through collaboration, communication, and strategy. My practice of law uniquely pairs tactics with aggressive representation in a way that considers the available resources within the case.
I am excited to publish my first book, Elder Abuse in 2024. For more information about the release please follow me @thelawyerking on social.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Hands down, the most important qualities for success are resilience, patience, and hard work.
First, nothing gets done without hard work. Life is hard, success is hard, becoming great is hard.
Second, patience. Being the best version of yourself and reaching your goals takes time. No matter how hard you work, it is not going to happen overnight. Be patient.
Third, resilience is mandatory. The only guarantee is that nothing is going to go as planned. Being able to adapt and overcome, pivot as necessary, and continue moving foward is the only way to accomplish dreams.
I credit my success at every level to my resilience, patience, and hard work. When things go bad, I focus on my one next step, no matter how small, and I do that. I keep taking steps, no matter how hard or how long it takes. Eventually, I look up and realize that I made it.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
I am living my dream life. It is both amazing and terrifying. On one hand, I am so happy that I am living exactly how I want, working the way I want, and feel completely fulfilled with my personal life and my professional life. I have a clear definition of the trajectory I want to take over the next few years. All of this brings a wonderful sense of peace, accomplishment, and frankly awe.
On the other hand, it is scary. I worry that this is too good to be true and I think and plan about how I am going to make sure to maintain living my dream. Maybe this internal challenge is rooted in self-esteem or imposter syndrome.
Focusing on my life, my goals, and my next steps is helping me enjoy my life and plan effectively for the future me. I take time every day to be grateful. I remind myself that even if tomorrow my dream life evaporates, I am one of the lucky ones who got to experience the life of their dreams.
