We were lucky to catch up with Malik Mayweather recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Malik, thank you so much for joining us today. There are so many topics we could discuss, but perhaps one of the most relevant is empathy because it’s at the core of great leadership and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your empathy?
Empathy often grows from personal experiences and challenges. For me, it stemmed from overcoming adversity, facing homelessness, navigating injuries in my athletic career, and leading teams during the pandemic. These experiences taught me resilience, shaped my understanding of others’ struggles, and deepened my empathy for those facing challenges.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a Productivity Coach, Speaker, and Realtor, focused on inspiring individuals to unlock their potential and achieve their goals. What excites me most is the transformative impact I witness in people’s lives when they harness their resilience and determination. I’m passionate about guiding others through crucial conversations, fostering creativity, and instilling faith in their abilities.
What’s special about my approach is the fusion of diverse expertise—from sports to Lean Six Sigma, real estate, and healthcare administration—to help audiences understand complex concepts through relatable analogies.
I’m thrilled to share that I’m exploring new speaking engagements, courses, and workshops centered around creative productivity and leveraging true faith through action for personal and professional growth.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Resilience, adaptability, and empathy were pivotal in my journey. Building resilience by embracing challenges, staying adaptable in changing circumstances, and nurturing empathy toward oneself and others were game-changers for me.
For those early in their journey:
1. Resilience: Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Cultivate a mindset that views setbacks as learning experiences. Seek mentors or resources that reinforce resilience-building practices.
2. Adaptability: Remain open to change and new experiences. Actively seek diverse perspectives and skills. Continuously learn and be willing to pivot when necessary.
3. Empathy: Practice active listening and strive to understand others’ perspectives. Engage in activities that foster empathy, such as volunteering or seeking diverse social interactions. Treat yourself with the same compassion you offer others.
Remember, growth takes time. Be patient with yourself and celebrate progress, no matter how small it may seem.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
For me it was Millionaire Fast Lane by Mj Demarco. It taught me that leverage over time is what will get you the life you want and that you should work hard on the systems that give you unlimited leverage and upside and not on the things that don’t. Wealth is an equation made up of Time, Money, & Health and the only way to get the Money and health is to create control over your time through building and investing in systems that give you more out than what you put in per unit of time.
