We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lymarie Jimenez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lymarie, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My mother. She is someone who has always gone after her dreams and never given up. No matter the setback she continued her path and got what she wanted. She has taught me to never give up and always dream big.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My entrepreneurial story starts with my daughter Nokomis. She is my miracle IVF baby and she is the reason I started my business. Everything I do is for her so that she can live the best possible life. Starting my business wasn’t always easy but anytime I felt like giving up I simply looked at my daughter and knew I had to succeed no matter what. Currently my company makes candles and room sprays that are sustainable in every way. I use natural ingredients, biodegradable and all of our products are cruelty free and vegan. I’m very excited for one of our new products which is a refillable candle. The vessel is a stunning onyx stone and you can choose from many refill options. What I love about this product is the fact that you can change out the refills whenever you want. Unlike other refillable candles, you don’t have to wait for the candle to burn to the bottom. We are hoping to launch this product by summer 2024.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
One skill that has helped me tremendously is the fact that I was pastry chef prior to making candles. Creating fragrances is just like creating a beautiful plated dessert. All of the components must blend harmoniously. An area of knowledge that has helped me in my current business is that I have already owned a business before. That knowledge of what to do and what not to do has helped me a lot. And one quality that I have is my love of learning. As a business owner we are always learning and growing. Never think you know everything.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The best thing my parents did for me is to move to the US from Puerto Rico. They wanted to give my sister and I more opportunities and a chance at a better life. I’ll always be thankful to them.
