We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chef Jasmine Warren. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chef Jasmine below.
Hi Chef Jasmine, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I got my work ethic from my parents. My entrepreneur spirit comes from my dad and my willingness to work comes from my mom. My mom was a single parent to both my sister and I. She always worked to provide for us, and she instilled in us to work hard and have our own. My dad had his own business. He never liked working for anyone but himself. I definitely got that from him!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a Pastry Chef in Tuscaloosa, AL and I own an online bakery called The Cookie Boutique and Bakery. I bake and ship cookies within the U.S. so far, I have shipped to 24 states. I’m mostly excited when I think of a new cookie flavor to make or when I get to do wedding cakes. I feel like a mad scientist when I’m baking new flavors. All of my cookies are made from scratch and it’s a great feeling to have people go crazy for them.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think having some knowledge about baking and food in general has helped me. My experience with working in customer service has helped me greatly. My advice to people who are early in their journey would be to learn everything you can and don’t give up when you hit a tough moment. Some days will be worse than others, but you fail when you give up completely. You have to keep going. Your home may support you or they may not. There 49 other states to expand your brand and vision. Take advantage.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My sister has been the most helpful in helping me with challenges and my business. My sister keeps me on my toes. My mom is also very helpful with my deliveries. My mom paid for my education at Johnson & Wales University so, she is the reason I was able to gain most of the knowledge I have. They have always been supportive of my decisions with my business and quitting my job to run my business full time.
