We were lucky to catch up with Cortney Herron recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cortney, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I believe my confidence and self-esteem have evolved through consistent practice and pushing myself beyond my comfort zone. I’ve found that growth happens when you’re willing to embrace challenges, even if they seem small at first. Whether it’s taking on new tasks, engaging in social situations, or learning new skills, each step outside my comfort zone has contributed to building my confidence. It’s a continuous journey of self-discovery and improvement, and I’ve come to realize that even the smallest victories play a significant role in shaping one’s self-esteem. Over time, this practice has become a fundamental part of my personal and professional development
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m Cortney Herron, a contemporary figurative painter passionate about connecting people with tranquility through bold, calming color palettes. Raised in sunny Los Angeles, surrounded by nature, my art reflects the deep intertwining of nature and the human experience.
Using organic forms and carefully crafted color palettes, I aim to convey harmony and interconnectedness. I explore the human form, capturing moments of daydreams and deep thought, portraying life’s raw authenticity. Working with acrylic, oil, and digital mediums, I collaborate with brands to bring my unique perspective to various contexts.
What I’m most proud of is creating art that resonates, bringing peace and connectedness to viewers. My art bridges nature’s beauty with the authenticity of the human experience, offering a journey of self-discovery. Whether acquiring for personal collections or collaborations, my work embodies the profound beauty and interconnectedness of our world. I look forward to continuing to share my art at upcoming art fairs and gallery exhibitions.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In retrospect, three key elements that have significantly shaped my journey are resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning. The ability to bounce back from setbacks and challenges proved crucial. Life and career are filled with uncertainties, and maintaining resilience allowed me to persevere during tough times. Embracing change and adapting quickly to new situations opened doors to opportunities I might have otherwise missed. Being flexible in approach and mindset is a valuable asset in any journey. And the commitment to ongoing education and skill development played a pivotal role. Staying curious, seeking knowledge, and honing skills kept me relevant and empowered in a dynamic environment.
For those early in their journey, my advice is to cultivate resilience by viewing challenges as opportunities for growth. Embrace adaptability; be open to change and see it as a chance to evolve. Prioritize continuous learning—never stop acquiring new knowledge and refining your skills. Additionally, seek mentors and build a network; their guidance can provide invaluable insights. Finally, don’t underestimate the power of networking and building meaningful connections within your industry or field. There are probably way more people in your network that are willing to help you than you may think. Asking for help can be scary but it’s worth it.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
In the past 12 months, my most significant area of growth has been in mastering the art of intentional time management. Recognizing the finite nature of time, I’ve honed my ability to prioritize tasks effectively, focusing on what truly matters. By setting clear goals, breaking them down into manageable steps, and eliminating unnecessary distractions, I’ve optimized my productivity. This intentional approach has not only enhanced my efficiency but also allowed me to strike a healthier balance between work and personal life. It’s a continuous journey, but the results in terms of productivity and overall well-being have been remarkable.
