We recently connected with Daniel Soriano and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel , really appreciate you joining us to talk about a really relevant, albeit unfortunate topic – layoffs and getting fired. Can you talk to us about your experience and how you overcame being let go?
When experiencing something like job loss, in the midst of panic a lot of the times it’s hard to have drive to continue to pursue a career in which you feel you aren’t good enough for. Honestly having to come to terms with, and get past negative thoughts about uncertainty in your future is scary. Those are the times I’ve realized is when you should be the most disciplined to prosper when things are up in the air and self doubt sets in. As I sat back in thought I came to the realization that you can’t have less than nothing so I tried looking at every option as an opportunity for betterment of myself and my health overall. Having nothing to lose sometimes creates motivation to explore every avenue of advancement and that’s what i tried to implement.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My journey as an entrepreneur first started off with the culture I was raised in. Being Hispanic/ Latino there’s a huge sense of urgency when it comes to prosperity and betterment of your self and circumstances. Immigrant mindset almost seems to stem from the want for more. I think I’ve always taken that ideology with me and as of late I’ve dove into the digital marketing scene using skills I’ve built up over the years w no prior education to start my small company. I help create video ad campaigns to help with business scaling for my clients and I love being able to watch a companies image go from where they are to where they want to be .(as far as media goes) I’ve been able to use these same skills in my personal endeavors aswell in being able to market myself and my music independently alongside a small distributor. I hope in the long run I can help influence people of all walks of life to do the same and create an atmosphere of hope for kids like me who aspire to do the same thing career wise or in music. To me it’s such a beautiful thing to be able to teach and even better feeling to inspire.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Patience, Discipline, and Grit. Set backs happen regardless of where you are in life and that’s something I’ve learned through experience. Patience allowed me to endure setbacks without losing sight of my goals, while grit fueled my determination to overcome obstacles and mental barriers. Discipline really played a huge role in maintaining a consistent work ethic, ensuring that I stayed focused on my aspirations regardless of everything going on in my life. Together, these qualities formed the foundation of personal growth to be able to get to where I’m at now.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Number one obstacle I face is definitely myself. From past decisions I made in a time of need, to procrastination due to having no motivation. Burn out definitely plays a huge part when you’re venturing into any creative endeavor that involves having to think on your feet. I’m almost more emotionally exhausted with how much is on my plate as opposed to physical, in the sense that my mind never stops racing with different options and scenarios. I recommend to anyone to decompress when possible and in as many ways as you can. From physical activities to mediation and journaling. Expressing those negative emotions or acknowledging them definitely always helps take a some of the weight off my shoulders.
