Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lord StrapZ. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
firstName}, thank you so much for agreeing to talk with us about a deeply personal and sensitive topic. Postpartum depression affects so many in the community and hearing from someone who has overcome PPD might help someone who is going through it right now. For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience
This is an excellent question that is underrated and really deserves more attention. When my heart started to have issues a few months before my baby was born I really thought the world was against me. I went to Druski’s Dallas audition and could barely stand so I ended up going last which is a terrible look when you want to gain someone’s attention and show your confident. PPD is definitely a real thing and I experienced it firsthand with my first ever child I brought to this earth on May 26, 2023. I ensured the mother Nylia Kindle had a great pregnancy filled with love, food, and lots of laughter. Everything wasn’t seeming so bad a lot of people were supporting us and giving us the confidence we needed to start this family with her only being 20 years old at the time before I took her to Cali for her 21st Birthday. Even with all this we still managed to get punched in the face hard by our baby’s birth. You don’t truly know how hard it is raising a newborn until you are forced to do it for real. I mean really do it not babysit your sister or niece for a few days I’m talking about really be with your child all day everyday. We were averaging about 4-5 hours of sleep for the first 3 months. This alone will do major damage to your mental health before we even get to losing your freedom and ability to get up and go. I was so tired I wasn’t focused on eating, making music, or any of the things I enjoy doing like hooping and playing video games. It seems like your. life is over and all your hopes and dreams are just crashing down right in front of your eyes. All the hard work and dedication you committed up to this point in perfecting your craft, as well as networking and mingling is put to a rather abrupt halt. This is where my Depression sprung from so to answer the question “How did I overcome it?”. Simple I just kept having faith that things would get better. I started to value every spare second I had a lot more and kept myself too busy to even be sad. My support system also played a huge role in our success giving us much needed breaks from time to time. Once I realize that having a baby was a blessing and not a curse I truly started to thrive. I was able to obtain 74 college credits through online classes in only 3 months and will be finishing my Computer Science degree at Western Governor’s University by the end of 2024. I also obtained 2 certifications one for ScrumMaster and one for Security+ as I planned on pursuing a career in cybersecurity. Once I made a plan and attacked it it gave me over whelming relief that I could be on top once again. Bosses take l’s but it’s more about how you recover from them that matters. If I didn’t have my newborn I don’t think I would have had the confidence and resilience to do the things I did. Which is why I say my baby was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Now I am managing artist at the penmen club and came out of early retirement for my music career. We are setting up for tours and I am truly happy that I made it through this difficult time at the top of my game.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a recording artist who plans on charting in the year 2024. I know love music because I took a break and got really depressed. Once I came back it’s like a spark came back that I had been missing since my baby was born. I have networked with so many artist from Cali all the way to New York. The recognition that I am gaining from just everywhere all at once is surreal. People are respecting me as an artist and want to be apart of anything I do. I can’t say enough about how hard Strapz Only has worked to overcome various obstacles with literally all of our founders having babies. But then I realized it’s our time the world once us focused so we can receive the lord’s blessing, no pun intended. We have so many exciting events on our schedule and it’s going to be a wild year. We are already in 3 different states and continuing to expand and grow our empire. We just had a recent music video “Pick Me Up” hit 27k views and provided something to help provide entertainment for the culture. I have been networking with upcoming names like Cobra Monroe, Yo$#!, and many more rising superstars who will be household names in the upcoming years. Now that I have learned how to make good songs this year will be filled with nothing but bangers from now on so make sure to tune into Lord Strapz on all platforms. I will be accepting my very first few features as well so don’t be afraid to hit me up on instagram where I post content daily.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Growing up playing basketball and with a military dad I learned the most important skill in life discipline. It is a underrated skill because only the greats have it. When you think of legends like Drake, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and 50 Cent they all have one skill in common and that’s discipline. People will only see you when things are good so you have to be discipline through the tough times in order to continue to succeed in life. I am highly receptive. I know many people who read this will wonder how I was able to obtain a 4 your degree in a year and it’s because I was blessed with the ability to learn new information faster than most. If you learn faster then everyone anything you do you will be at least average at it very quickly. I have killed many pro Fortnite players, played Semi Pro ball, and now I am making music like a professional. This wouldn’t be possible if I didn’t have this skill as I could go on and on about all the other things I’m great at but I want to keep this short. My communication skills are of high value too whether in relationships or job opportunities my ability to communicate effectively gives me an unfair edge in anything I do. A good communicator can talk his way into places he shouldn’t be no matter the status.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was taking me to a mental hospital as I suffered major depression as a teen. I didn’t understand why I was feeling the way I was feeling and later realized puberty was a big factor along with my environment. Going to school in College Park, GA living off old national highway behind Biscayne a fully blooded out gang territory, smiling was a sign of weakness. I couldn’t look too friendly or people will take advantage of that and living like that everyday was not normal. I didn’t realize until I moved out the hood that life could be different and I didn’t have to be serious all the time. But it left a big stain on my personality but also told me how to live life looking over your shoulder so I value my time there and wouldn’t change a thing to this day.
