We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jesse Dvorak. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jesse below.
Hi Jesse, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
I don’t believe in creative blocks.
There is always an infinite source of ideas available at any moment, and we can always take action.
Part of the process of reaching new creative heights and depths is getting through all of the garbage ideas that will be left on the cutting floor.
It’s really just about understanding where I am in the process. I may write 10 songs or 10,000 words, and I think all of them are garbage, yet that is good. It means I am mining towards something more true and once I hit it, I will know it in my soul.
I also spend a lot of time with nature, learning from her and just being.
When we are more integrated and feeling connected, the creative energy will arrive as a source for us to surrender into.
Any creative needs to spend time filling their soul with deep nourishment and a new will be produced. So go to an art show or go camping and return to the “blank canvas” renewed.
There is a balance of consistently digging in and working towards the gold, and integrating to the source itself for inspiration. Combine that with the fundamental belief that I am a creator – therefore I will always be creating.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
There can often be a gap between understanding things intellectually and truly embodying them as a way of being.
These are things I’ve integrated as a filmmaker, an artist, and through my development as a leader in all relational aspects of life.
As a men’s mentor/coach and spiritual guide (The Elemental Man), I work with men to connect that which has been disconnected, whether that’s in a relationship, career, artistic project, masculine energy, or the journey of experiencing God.
I am also putting the final touches on my next record for Blood Nebraska, which my gothic country music project. I plan on releasing it this spring along with a new music video or 2.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Presence: Without being centered, connected, and present we are just a vacant vessel under other influences – disconnected from our true self.
Know Yourself: So many people are chasing some vision or dream that is not in alignment with the essence of who they really are. To live in as someone integrated, joyful, and connected we have to go deeper than the surface and explore the truth of our spirit.
Vision: From the place of self-knowledge, vision will emerge. But mere vision must be met with actualization and the calling this vision has upon your soul. A true vision will call you into your hero’s journey, and that’s where the adventure begins.
My advice on how to develop or improve these… just take the next step, and keep taking that one next step consistently.
Do something new for 6 months consistently and it becomes a part of who you are.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I love partnerships. We have become a culture (especially in LA) that feels like everyone has to do everything themselves.
I am building from a vision in my heart that is exciting, and as we build we also need to contribute.
I want to connect with as many visionary artists, healers, investors, business owners, people who love to organize, etc. as possible. People who work from the heart of integrity rather than chasing trends. True boundary breakers.
We are one big, beautiful community on this earth, and when we find ourselves with aligned with a mission, we get to share our gifts to build a better Kingdom of God.
