We were lucky to catch up with Danielle Curtis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Danielle, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
I simply started saying “NO” and I say it a lot! I had to learn that pleasing everyone is impossible! But making myself happy is easy! I learned that I was burning myself out by trying to be everything to everyone. I was running out of steam for myself. Doing what I can for others, WHEN I can (on my time) has been a game changer! Life has been much more peaceful!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a traveling food blogger who is always looking for new restaurants to try! I love venturing out to expand my palate and taste new foods and cocktails. Being a food blogger has allowed me to meet new people and create new relationships. One of the few things that seems to bring people together is food! So why not travel the world and share my experiences? I have recently started a new series called “Flight Foods”. It will show my followers not only my travels but it will also act as a guide on what (and what not) to eat in various airports.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Specifically for food blogging, the three most important things that help me are:
(1) Patience- Not everything will go as planned. Not every person will be receptive of your content and work. Equipment will fail. Last minute cancellations will happen. But be patient and stay the course.
(2) Release Fear- Be open to networking. Don’t be afraid to try. Don’t be afraid to be present. Open up to the endless possibilities and opportunities. You will never be found if you stay hidden.
(3) Keep Going- Failure and let downs will happen. It’s life. But use those disappointments to fuel your discipline, growth, and success.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am ALWAYS looking to collaborate with fellow foodies! I like to learn from others and see what makes them tick! I believe two heads are better than one and why not put two (or more) together while doing what we love best-Eating Good Food!
