Meet Kelly Rae Kerwin

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kelly Rae Kerwin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kelly Rae below.

Hi Kelly Rae, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I believe that my resilience comes from honoring all aspects of life that has been afforded to me. All of my relations, not just human but, plant, animal and spiritual allies.
Knowing that rest is part of the creative process and while some might not think of being an energy worker and teacher as creative, it most certainly is.

I make sure to sit with elders and others that have come before me regularly as a way to check myself. I have people around me that I trust to keep my ego in check.

I always come back to the body as my guide. I have many practices and rituals that are a part of my daily life.
I honor and respect my body as a barometer of how I am doing.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a healer, teacher and entrepreneur. My business is always evolving as I grow as a practitioner and business owner. I see clients one on one and for the first time ever, I am creating an embodied business collective that launches in February. There are many business masterminds that focus on strategy and urgency, my mastermind will focus on nervous system regulation, body mind and spirit integration, integrity and community. Yes there will be strategy, however it will not override well being and health.
The other big thing that I am putting together for 2024 is womb circles and womb consciousness.
This is the power center for women and is mostly only thought about when we are menstruating or pregnant.
I am bringing together midwives, chiropractors, doulas along with me to give you a full spectrum of how to begin looking at this part of the body differently. To celebrate this part of life instead of dreading it. I was a birth worker for almost a decade and this feels like a really good way to get back into the business and not be on call. I do miss aspects of that culture.
The way that I come up with classes and programs is based on what my community is asking for.
I have a healer’s program that focuses on the more intense side and aspects of spirituality and being a healer.
I also teach an intuition class.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Patience, emotional intelligence and regulation, and a deep connection to your body.

I think when people are stepping into the healer role, whether it’s as a Reiki practitioner or somatic body based practices, you need experience and patience. This is a long game. Those that rise to fame or begin making a lot of money right out of the gate usually burn out rather quickly.
So patience. Don’t quit your day job until you have a steady clientele and years of sitting with people. Becoming a reputable and grounded practitioner takes years.

I have a saying that neither my mind nor my emotions are the boss of me.
And the truth of the matter is they want to be. So the moment I have a very strong reaction, I go back to my body to see what is happening. To be a good healer and teacher and mentor, you have to be able to be weather the storm of other people’s emotions and not take them on.

Any spirituality that focuses on things outside the body have the potential to get you carried away. I believe this is why I was so interested in Earth based medicines and curanderismo. In these practices, everything is our relation and we see health holistically. We don’t fragment health or healing. There is no separation.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
When people begin to work with me, no matter what they are seeing me for, I tell them to read The Four Agreements. It is required reading for my healer’s program.

I refer to this book as one of my bibles and in my opinion, one of the most important spiritual writings.
The first agreement is Be Impeccable With Your Word.
The second is Don’t Take Anything Personally.
The third is Don’t Make Assumptions.
The fourth is Always Do Your Best,

I read from this book every week to ground myself and remember why it is that I do this work.
