We were lucky to catch up with KeShawn Sensei recently and have shared our conversation below.
KeShawn, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I belive resilience and work ethic work hand and hand. I have put in so many hours in my craft that I have built this invisible shield around my being that will always keep me going, no matter what. This shield doesn’t keep me from getting hit, it just keeps me going.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
For those who this is their first time meeting me, I go by KeShawn Sensei. I am an artist, creative, engineer, etc out of Houston, Texas. Right now I am working on an extensive album that is scheduled to release late 2024.
This year I am primarily focused on the visual aspect attached to my music. For the past four years, my main focus has been deepening my understanding of music itself and experiment enough to develop a unique sound. I feel like now it’s time for that next phase of creativity. Other than visuals, performing is another main focus for me.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say the three most impactful qualities along my journey has been work ethic, persistence and just a love for music. I feel like these three qualities are important every single day, without work ethic you will never reach the heights you want, without persistence you will never reach the skill level you want, and without the love you will never work hard enough to make it all work.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
One of my favorite books and has been for over 10 years is a book titled The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. This book is full of a gems with a ton of double meetings. But overall the book is about resilience and never giving up no matter how many times you fall.
