Meet Jodie Kennedy-Aguina

We were lucky to catch up with Jodie Kennedy-Aguina recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jodie , so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

When I’m the only one in the room that looks like me, I feel more confident. I’m a black woman so I already know the assumptions and questions about me when I walk into any room. I love proving people wrong and giving them the opposite of what they expect and that means giving them my intelligence, grace and mindset.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m a licensed nail artist and I currently sell size adjustable hand jewelry as well as essential care products for women and men. My current focus is branding my business and really getting to know who my clients and customers are. I’m posting more on social media and promoting my brand everywhere I go. What I do is so special because I’m able to promote self-care and make clients look and feel good. I am super excited about my new client special which gives each new client $20 off on their first service with me. I will also be launching my new Qoh Essential products in the months to come. These essential products will include a fragranced foaming hand soap and body butter set for men and women. I believe expanding your business should always be the goal and it sets you up for a more secure solid business.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that was most impactful to my journey was my willingness to continue learning, consistency and focus. When you are willing to learn you grow, when you are consistent people trust your work and when you are focused you won’t miss out on opportunities.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The number one obstacle that I’m currently facing is promoting my brand. It gets tough trying to promote your business. I have learned that I cannot do this alone. What has worked for me is researching different ways to promote my business. What I have found is that paying for advertisement and using advertising tools has helped generate sells faster for my business.
