Meet Tyler Kidd

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyler Kidd. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyler below.

Hi Tyler , so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
Since I was seven I’ve in most cases had been the bigger guy in the room. With that being said though, I’ve been in plenty of spaces as a dancer and overall performer where I felt shy to be there because of my size. Although I eventually had to realize that that was one of the small things that made me different as a performer and ultimately stand out in a positive way.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m an actor, vocalist, and dancer and I’ve been working professionally for almost five years. Focusing on an artistic career allows me to be my own business. Within the industry I do musical theatre, teach dance classes, choreograph, and even make music. What’s exciting about it is that I get to be a creative and collaborate with other folks on projects. As a dance instructor I’ve been given many opportunities to teach at multiple studios and schools which has been a blessing. I’m currently teaching weekly classes at DanceFX Atlanta on Wednesday nights and I’m also in a show at the Center for Puppetry Arts called,”Human,” that runs from January 17th-28th. On top of that I will be spreading my talents outside of Georgia and I’m excited to see what’ll potentially stem from that.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
With doing musicals, I am often called to use my skills as a thespian, mover, and singer to be an affective storyteller. My advice for up and coming storytellers would be to stay grounded and always be willing to improve on their craft!

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Yes, my current challenge is reaching the level of discipline I feel that I need to be at. Consistency can be so difficult but I’m very aware that it’ll make such a big difference in the results that I want to achieve in my life.
