Meet David Redman

We were lucky to catch up with David Redman recently and have shared our conversation below.

David, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my mom. She’s overcome more than I could ever imagine, so when you compare that to your own situation you got to keep going.

Please tell our readers about what you do, what you feel is most exciting or special about it, as well as anything else you’d like folks to know about your brand/art/etc. If relevant, please also tell our readers about anything new (events, product/service launches, expansion, etc)
What I feel is the most exciting thing about directing is you can be so prepared leading up to the shoot, but on the day it could all go out the window and you find something you didn’t even think was possible.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Resilience is definitely one of them. Having that hard skin to not take things personally when there’s a rejection, an unanswered email, or disagreement. A skill that is important to have as a director is knowing how every department works and how to do that job. Knowing how to speak everyones language and giving them what they need to succeed is huge. Another quality to have is adaptability; being quick to change something that may not be working or if something out of your control impedes you from getting the shot you need.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Believe in me. That’s a short and sweet answer, but it means a lot.
