We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cole Withers. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cole below.
Cole, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Hard work. When I was younger, I suffered from imposter syndrome. No matter what the success, I never felt worthy. I was always an imposter. Today, I realize I am uniquely qualified and the work I put in to develop my craft continues a day at a time. The rewards are plentiful and continue to surprise me.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a singer/songwriter. My single “Fall In Love Tonight” was #1 on Indie charts in the UK and USA for six months. I am currently working on a new project, the first single set for release this Spring is “Blue At Birth” This collection of songs is a departure for me. I play all the instruments and am really excited to share them with you. It’s more blues driven than what I’ve done before.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities/skills that are vital are patience, persistence and prioritization. My first agent told me “There are no overnight successes.” Persistence is how I develop craft and prioritization is critical – where I put my attention, that’s what I’ll grow.
At this stage in my life, all of the chapters that have come before collectively inform my brand. My background in visual arts/photography and as a screenwriter informs my lyrics and song construction. I am known for my voice, my lyrics and guitar work. Development and improvement comes to anyone who is willing to put in the time. Put in the time!
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
I’d like to recommend two…
The New Testament, the Book Of Acts specifically.
“Atomic Habits” by James Clear. A few key takeaways are 1. Doing the work every day – even if only for 15 minutes. Over the course of a year, it adds up. 2. The habit of doing daily creates joy, not the outcome.
(Of course, I paraphrase. Read the book! It’s a gift.)
