We were lucky to catch up with Indigoz Shoes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Indigoz, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
Indigoz Shoes has learned to be effective/successful, by always being unique and innovative by designing every shoe from scratch and providing a solution to an ongoing problem. We created a business and a strategy, that not only do we win and become successful, everyone around us also reapes the same benefits from showcasing make-up artists, models, hairstylist, photographers, marketing teams and all elements and resources Indigoz Shoes needs to make the company work and run. Our solution to provide stylish looks and giving maximum comfort in our shoes with our specialty insoles, with customer testimonials of the comfort and style, also helps us be effective/successful in the room, while we are the only ones that look like us.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Indigoz Shoes, is a designer shoe brand that focuses on healthy footcare, providing a solution to a problem of “No comfort in designer brand shoes” with our specialty insoles giving maximum comfort. We launched our online e-commerce store at the end of 2020 during the pandemic and have evolved and learned business lessons from then until now 2024. Indigoz Shoes is excited to launch back into the shoe industry this year with new styles and more comfort in our shoes, we also will be launching a new shoe accessory from our brand towards the end of 2024.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that were most impactful in Indigoz Shoes journey would be, Reliance, Standards, and Staying current. Indigoz Shoes has had its up’s and downs, with different business deals that weren’t solid, what we learned from that, that gave us our reliance, is now we always vet and do our research on business partners, investors, clients, employees and business ventures, to make sure it aligns with Indigoz Shoes business ethics, financial success, and company success, allowing us to bounce back from any business mistakes or misshapens that may have incurred. The standard quantities that were impactful are, the people that Indigoz Shoes works with, they have to be professional, have integrity, and wants to see the business win as much as we do, from the grooming and appearance of models and employees, to the behavior of all at events, photo shoots, and representation of the brand, with these things in place, it helps Indigoz Shoes with it’s market and the message of excellence we are pushing to convey. Indigoz Shoes third and last quality is the ability to stay current, Indigoz Shoes has an impressive research team that keeps us current with the year within and years to come, they stay on top of the lasest that are going on in the footwear industry and fashion industry and community, Indigoz Shoes attends different business expo’s, fashion events, and relevant things that will help our business scale in our footwear industry. That is the key for any business is to stay on top of the knowledge and new know hows in your business industry to make sure you are up-to-date and changing with the flow of your industry and not being left behind. This helps with moving towards the success of your business.

The book that has helped play a role in the development of Indigoz Shoes is, “Leave It Better Than You Found It” by Bruce A. Nordstrom. This book was given to our owner and designer Toi Kyles, after she completed the management program working at Nordstrom. This book showed the beginnings of Nordstrom being a shoe store, that then turned into a full department store, guiding you through the building of the business, Nordstrom’s main focus of customer service and providing what the customer needs, and staying close to their customers, always focusing on leaving it better than they found it.
