Meet Melissa Randall

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Melissa Randall. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Melissa, so great to have you on the platform and excited to have you share your wisdom with our community today. Communication skills often play a powerful role in our ability to be effective and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your communication skills.
My parents were in the military and we moved every two years or less for my entire childhood. As a child, I was always having to adapt to new environments and make connections with new people and then after a short period of time, we moved again and I would have to start all over. After college, where I studied theater, my life and career continued to move me all over the united states as a performer at theme parks, Children’s Theatre Tours, time at the Ringling Brother’s Circus, as well as a 2- 1/2 years spent hosting cooking shows on cruise ships with Chefs from all over the world. Eventually, back in 2010, I made my way back to Los Angeles and became a toy show presenter for Fisher Price and Mattel toys and got deeply involved with Toastmasters International, a public speaking organization, where I immersed myself into the organization and became the club president of an award winning club and competed and won first place in many speech competitions! I love being on stage and using my voice to create laughter and to inspire others.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Working hard and showing up with integrity is really important to me! And one of the things that I really focus on and share with others is believing that your dreams are possible! I started my business with zero dollars and the belief that what I wanted to create was possible! I talked about my vision and started creating everything I could to get it all started. And for over a year, I never made one dollar for my company, but I just kept moving forward with the belief that it was going to happen one of these days. And then one day, everything changed and then I started hosting in-person baking parties all over Los Angeles and then when the Pandemic hit, I moved my business over to a virtual platform and started hosting virtual baking events all over the world and my company expanded!

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Both of my parents retired as full colonels in the Us Air Force. Being a military kid and being moved around to a new school every two years or so forced me to learn how to adapt to new situations very quickly. I learned that your word is all that you have. That being on time really means arriving early. I learned that there are so many different types of people in the world and that it’s easy to see the humanity in all beings no matter where they come from or what their background might be… if you just lead from your heart. I learned that simple acts of kindness can change a life… in ways you can’t even imagine. I feel very lucky to have been brought up the way I was, I was exposed to so much diversity at such a young age, I wouldn’t change it for the world.
