Meet Uncle Flood

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Uncle Flood a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Uncle, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Creativity. That is always the artist struggle, isn’t it? I have found that creativity comes when one is happy and content, at least in my experience, I suppose some would find creativity in sadness and despair, however I try to stay on the bright side of things. It seems that ideas and thoughts come easier with a clear mind and peace and quiet.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a singer songwriter and recording artist. I couldn’t be happier, or more blessed than being able to create new music and new, sounds for the world to hear. I am always searching for something different and new, something fresh and intriguing. I have the luxury of being the sound engineer at a music venue in the summer, so I am surrounded by incredible talent all the time that is also a very big inspiration for me. I have one full length debut album out on all of the music platforms and a couple of music videos. I’m looking forward to releasing my second full length album this coming year , I can’t wait for everyone to hear it. Feel free to follow me on all of the social media and music platforms at The Uncle Flood.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
being a songwriter band, you should probably have a vast array of listening material. Just as an architect would look at buildings, a songwriter looks at songs in the same fashion so be knowledgeable on the subject is definitely a big quality. I don’t know if it’s a skill, but listening to people is always a good trait. It never hurts to close your mouth and open your ears. Lastly, I would say perseverance.. I think that’s biggest skill/quality that anyone can have in life in general.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
that one’s easy! There’s only one thing to do, stop and take a breath. When you’re overwhelmed, your brain is not working in rhythm so it is always best to stop. Take a breath look around and then determine calmly and peacefully a path forward, that’s how I do it, you can always count backwards from 10!
