Meet Meagan Meehan

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Meagan Meehan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Meagan , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by always staying in touch with my inner child. I always walk down toy aisles in stores, I get character inspirations from Halloween costumes, I never miss an opportunity to check out the latest children’s books…it’s amazing how profound they are when you read them as an adult. I also love visiting museums…they are such inspiring places!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a published author, a produced playwright and screenwriter, and an abstract artist. I am known for my sculptural wall hangings that are made from a lot of found objects. I am also the creator of the Conscious Perceptionalism art practice where I create works that can be viewed from any direction…there is no definitive left, right, up, or down.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most valuable assets to me have been: Creativity, Initiative, and Persistence. I have always been creative and I think some of that might be inherited. However, taking the initiative to actually get projects done–not just thinking about getting them done–is essential to finding success. This also relates to persistence which is the mindset to constantly look out for opportunities to showcase creative work.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My parents have always been my biggest supporters. I’m an only child and I am very close to them and grateful to them.
