Meet Keary Alaniz

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Keary Alaniz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Keary, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by having unique experiences to draw from. I am Mexican-American, and I grew up in a bilingual household, learning both languages. Over the years I have evolved as a musician and picked up piano, guitar, bass, and drums. These are the instruments I use to create a wide variety of sounds. Traveling, adventure, and keeping an open mind has led me to lead a life rich in experience. So far outside of the US, I have visited China, Mexico, and Canada. In China, I got the opportunity to teach English to bright young children.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m Keary Alaniz, a musical artist from Dayton, Ohio. I produce, perform, and publish music in the Electronic, Pop, and Hip-hop/R&B categories. I’m known for my rock-influenced style, impressive deliveries, and meaningful lyrics with deep meaning. I first got the idea to be an artist in my early childhood after being inspired by Beastie Boys and Nirvana. I am professionally focused on creating highly appealing music and visuals. I graduated from Hocking College with a degree in Music Management, and then I went on to learn Live Sound Engineering with Exceptional Sounds. Since then I have made strides to establish myself as an independent artist, traveling from state to state to network and share my music. I work with other artists such as Kiki Marie, PastAura, and Mon’te LS. I have over 100 releases including singles, albums and EP’s across all platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Be patient, learn how to do stuff, and never be discouraged. I always remind myself it’s going to take time to become great. Music is an obsession for me, but having hobbies outside of it is important. For example, I like to travel and see new places. Learning how to do stuff is crucial so that you can make a good impression on others. I would suggest seeking an apprenticeship, or taking classes related to what your goals are. Lastly, you must be your own biggest cheerleader because its going to be very overwhelming. Never settle for less, and always work towards your aspirations. When you clock out of your “regular job”, you have to clock in to your “real job”. Be true to yourself, and never let your childhood dreams fade away.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking for people to network with and collaborate on making great music. I want to work with someone who is self motivated, and believes in what they are doing. I hope that people I work with can be down to Earth enough to know that we are on the same team and trying to achieve similar goals on the road to success. With the right team any goal can be achieved. Come equipped with skills and knowledge that you think would be beneficial to a solid musical team, whether that’s visuals, songwriting, production or etc. If you are reading this and want to connect, please send me a message via Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook. I check all those daily and my handle is my actual name.
