We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mia Rio. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mia below.
Mia, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I’m a night owl. When it’s all quiet and peaceful, that’s when I flourish in my creativity but my best ideas come in my hot showers.
Even if I’m not working on anything official, I’m still writing, whether it’s music or films. I keep a catalog going to keep my mind active and my skills sharp.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am someone who was born to build people up through Arts & Entertainment.
I was never someone who had the desire to make a living in the Entertainment industry but was always a Creative for the sheer enjoyment I have in it. A sense of purpose developed in me as I matured so I started to try and discover the reasons I enjoyed so much doing music and film. I then started understanding the impact of my art on people along the way.
Art is so much more profound than we think. So much so that Science hasn’t figured it all out yet. It did take a while for me to value that because the society we live in learns to only truly support art when it comes from a celebrity so I myself had to grow into the value of what I do.
Today, I see myself as someone with a great responsibility to leave a healthy legacy in the world. When you die, your art stays and continues to impact lives for generations to come. So I don’t consider myself an entertainer but a life builder.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’ve mentioned some with Bold Journey in the past but there have been several key ones.
I think that being confident in who you are and what you are here to do without pride getting in the way will make one very effective as they develop all other skills they need to fully operate in their calling.
I’ve also come to understand that the desire to learn is good but not taking lessons entirely passively is very important too. In this industry, we find way more bad advice than good so eat the fish but take out the bones, meaning, listen but also filter the information.
Take your time. Accept that you should grow into maturity before diving in head first into the world of Entertainment. It’s a very rough and unforgiving world and if you’re not mature enough to handle it, you’ll lose yourself in it like so many do. Wanting quick results in this industry isn’t the way to go. It’s a long term investment so you’ll need a plan B while working on plan A. There’s no overnight success unless you make some questionable decisions you’ll sure regret later.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I’ve been studying the Bible for over 20 years. I read it daily and started as a child. I still learn something new every day. The Bible is not only my life manual but where I understand more about God’s mind and heart, what He created me for and how exactly He wants to relate with me. I get deep undestanding of who He is, who I am and what I’m on this earth for.
