We recently connected with JAY-LEN and have shared our conversation below.
JAY-LEN, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by constantly creating ideas and expressing myself through different mediums of art. For me this looks really spontaneous. When I have the urge to make music I have at it. When I want to paint I get right to it. When its time to do an event or performance, its lit. When its time to travel im packed.
Feeding your natural born talents is the best way to tell God, “thank you.”
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is JAY-LEN i’m an Artist and Events Coordinator out of PG County, Maryland.
Currently im focused on the music and exploring the business side of it. Simultaneously i’ve been painting on canvas some of my favorite music inspirations to keep the creativity flowing. In 2024 im looking to drop more music on all platforms. My music journey has just begun as an artist, and 2023 was my first year of doing actual payed performances. Im excited to do more shows and for people to have more access to some soulful music and enjoying it with me. My latest song releases are called “Domino Effect” found on SoundCloud and my first ever Itunes single “Cool it.” You can also find me on all social platforms like instagram and tiktok as @jaylenssong. There is where ill be posting most of my creative content, along with any upcoming events and releases.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
To me the most important skill is the ability to be relatable, so that you communicate a message. Some would say to be very wise or grounded through experiences. Okay thats one lol. Second I would say the want to explore and be open minded. Thirdly having faith so strong that it compliments your confidence.
If I were speaking to a younger me I would say “be more invested into yourself and you have a long journey ahead of you so pace yourself.”
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My parents have helped me overcome challenges the world will never know of. My dad is the practice makes perfect and pay attention to everything type guy. My mom is the you can do anything in the world with faith because I seen you do this, this and this with it. Then I got a supporting cast that supports them that im blessed to have. Family is everything to me.
