Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jordan Brett. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jordan, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
My passion for what I do as a photographer is enough to keep my creativity alive. I figured out that when I truly found my craft which is something I love and became obsessed with, a lot of other issues disappeared like seeking for creativity, worried about jobs, money, etc. I became very confident in who I am, what I am doing, and the general questions that one asks about themselves. I struggle to take breaks/time off but I force myself to because it’s a necessary action to keep the mind refreshed.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m currently in a phase of immense gratitude in my professional journey, purposed by the transition of my visa status from student to artist. This shift has not only validated my capabilities but has also instilled a deep sense of confidence in my evolving expertise in photography.
Over the last two years, my focus has been on product photography, specifically in the realm of furniture. My passion lies in furniture design, interior design, and architecture, and over the past four years, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with incredibly inspiring creative minds, resulting in a strong portfolio.
Embracing the collaborative ethos, I’ve come to appreciate the significance of teamwork over the “one man, run & gun” approach. Working collectively, sharing ideas, and engaging in post-production as a team have proven instrumental in elevating the final output.
My primary goal is simple: to create the most compelling photographs possible! A process that brings me immense joy. I find fulfillment in the creative process, especially when it comes to exploring science and nature.
Beyond the commercially driven photography, my creative aspirations are deeply rooted in the mysteries of science and nature, where I believe true artistic exploration unfolds.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, three pivotal elements stand out: adaptability, continuous learning, and collaboration. These qualities have been instrumental in shaping my path.
ADAPTABILITY:
Embracing change as a constant companion in your journey. The ability to adapt to evolving circumstances, technologies, and trends is crucial. Stay nimble and open-minded, ready to pivot when necessary. Cultivate a mindset that views challenges as opportunities for growth.
CONTINUOUS LEARNING:
The creative industry is dynamic, and a commitment to continuous learning is non-negotiable. Stay curious, be a voracious consumer of knowledge, and invest time in honing your craft. Seek inspiration not only within your discipline but also from adjacent fields to bring fresh perspectives to your work.
COLLABORATION:
Creative synergy often emerges from collaborative endeavors. Recognize the power of teamwork and the diversity of perspectives it brings. Learn to communicate effectively, appreciate the strengths of others, and cultivate a collaborative spirit that enriches your creative output.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Absolutely! I’m always on the lookout for exciting collaborations and partnerships! I thrive on the creative energy that emerges when diverse minds come together. I’m open to collaborating with designers and creatives across various disciplines, especially those who are passionate about pushing boundaries and exploring new ideas. Whether you’re into product design, visual arts, or any other creative endeavor, if you’re driven by a desire to create something unique and meaningful, I’m eager to team up!
