We were lucky to catch up with Mike Memphis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mike , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I would say my dad Pastor Kenneth Chalmers Sr. All my life I had an example of what hard work and determination looks like. My dad always taught me and my siblings the definition of work. I’ve never seen my dad quit at anything. I’m grateful to have such a positive and inspiring role model in my life. There’s been times in my life where I wanted to just give up but then I always remember how I’ve never seen my dad give up an that’s the motivating factor I need to keep striving to be great. He also taught me that if a man doesn’t work he doesn’t eat and to always go hard for what you want in life.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Well I’ll try not to be too long lol,I’m a local Hip-hop Artist in Memphis,TN Music is something I literally been doing my entire life.
I’ve recorded music with just about anyone you can think of as far as Memphis is concerned. I have recorded records with Artist from all over the USA. I’m still independent at the moment with SameCircleEnt but lately I’ve been drawing the attention of a few major labels. The past year of 2023 I dropped a slew of singles and videos and at the end of January I will be dropping my latest project entitled “Memphis Zoo”. It will have production from Versa,Lil K33,Storm,CookinBeats&Hitkidd and King Zo. Make sure you’ll be on the lookout for it,it’ll be on all major platforms as well.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say consistency,having the right people around you and believing in yourself. I tell younger Artists all the time that consistency is key.You have to stay consistent in whatever it is that you’re doing especially when it comes to the art of music because new music comes out everyday. Having the right people around you plays a major part. You won’t make it far in the game hanging with the wrong crowd because they will only be a distraction to you,don’t matter if it’s your best friend,your girlfriend or brother. What I’ve learned from situation I’ve dealt with is that your chances for success is best with people that share the same interests and goals. Then last but not least is believing in yourself. This is one of the most important things you can do. You have to have the mindset that you can achieve anything you set out to accomplish. You would be surprised at the things you yourself can achieve by just having a little faith.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
I would say that not giving up on me is what had let me know that my parents cared. I can truly say that no matter what I’ve done my parents never gave up on me or any of my siblings.
I’ve done things in my life that caused me to be incarcerated a few years but they never threw my shortcomings in my face,it was always encouragement. They always made sure that I knew that nothing is too hard to overcome and as long as I keep God first in my life I can do anything I set out to accomplish,so yes big shout out to my parents for showing me so much love.
