Meet Coby Sultan

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Coby Sultan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Coby below.

Hi Coby, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Work ethic is not passed down from a parent, it’s not something a teacher can show you, and its certainly not found in some magic pill. It’s cultivated over years of practice and making deliberate choices that put your future success ahead of your present desires. The way that you think is not a given. The way that you act is not a given. Developing work ethic takes time and consistent practice. It also takes having a deep appreciation and love.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
In 2018, I moved to the Netherlands to play professional soccer. 3 long and arduous years left me resenting the game I had loved since I was 4 years old. I no longer felt the passion or the heart anymore. It was time to move on. Though a difficult decision to make, I haven’t looked back after 2 of the most inspiring and growth-filled years of my life. I moved to a farm in Portugal for several months to clear my head, figure out next steps, and work on a music piece that i had been planning on writing for a long time. The next year was spent traveling, writing music, performing live shows, coaching kids in soccer, teaching yoga, and exploring anything else I found remotely interesting. I discovered a passion for movement, and got accepted to a doctorate program to become a Physical Therapist.

Currently, I am a yoga teacher, musician, soccer coach, and movement practitioner in Washington, DC. For. a long time, I thought I wanted to be a full time musician, but after a year of pursuing it, I have since decided that music is something i’d like to keep for myself. I enjoy writing and creating in my room and playing small, intimate shows around North America. Im incredibly passionate about movement and as I prepare to begin PT school, i am building my brand and teaching as much as possible.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three 3 qualities that have proven most impactful in my career have been curiosity, work ethic, and tenacity.

You don’t learn how to swim by staring down at the lake. You need to jump into the water. In the water is where growth happens. Just start. Whatever it is. Start today. Start right now. Be curious and inquire when you don’t understand something.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always looking to collaborate with people, brands, non-profits, etc. that align with my values. It doesn’t even have ti be related to yoga, movement, or music. You can connect with me via social media. My preferred method is Instagram @cobythesultan
