We were lucky to catch up with Tammy Tan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Tammy with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
From our college, Art Center College of Design. I learnt that we as the student decided how much effort we are putting in. Every presentation when we critiqued each other’s work, we found that there are higher and higher standards set by the level of the class. So we were trained to only present the best work and put our best foot forward.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Many toy companies design products for short-term play. At Father’s Factory, we prioritize creating toys that become cherished family memories lasting a lifetime. Our wooden toys inspire creativity and exploration and also encourage more unplugged play. Our primary goal is to design toys with a prolonged lifespan, preventing them from becoming discarded in landfills after fulfilling their initial purpose.
Carefully designed to fit with your home’s aesthetics, our toys are intended to be retained, passed down, or showcased as interior decor once a child has outgrown them. Father’s Factory toys exceed expectations, offering sustained enjoyment and sentimental value.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say our design skills have helped us tremendously. We started as designers, so from product design, branding, graphics, social medias we are lucky enough to handle the work. If you just start your journey, I would say believing in yourself is very important, and be able to cheer yourself up can help you brighten the days. Also meet “friends” that share similar experiences with you in person or online. This helps to get different resources.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We always love collaborating. In the past, we had collaborated with many small shops and brands that share similar audiences and values with us. We always do giveaways with these shops and brands and share a special discounts for our audiences. We open for new ideas of collaborations too.
