Meet Purefected

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Purefected. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Purefected with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My family came here from a mud hut in Ethiopia. The poor immigrant mentality of hard work was drilled into me from early childhood. I knew my only way out of a situation where kids in my high school and junior high were getting murdered all around me on my block, and I often starved to the point of losing consciousness throughout my childhood, was to get academic scholarships to go away to college. While other kids were on the corner selling crack or smoking weed, I was in the library practicing old SAT books. It worked. I went to the University of Virginia on full academic scholarship. The vocabulary I developed helps me write more thorough and unique lyrics than rappers with far less words at their disposal.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the first rap artist ever with a perfect rhyme flow.: every word in every line rhyming perfectly. No rapper ever even reached half that. Rap is rhyming. I’m literally more than twice as good at it as anyone I’ve ever heard. My debut single ‘Open’ spins at top clubs across the Washington DC area. ‘Open’ and my 2nd single ‘Money Grip’ are both selected for Pandora Radio. I’ve been featured in onlne magazines recently such as CanvasRebel and VoyageBaltimore. 2024 I plan to release my debut EP, followed by my debut album.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Vocabulary, individuality, and firsthand Hip Hop culture.

Increase your vocabulary by reading books, and listening to lyrical rap artists such as myself. To stand out for individuality: don’t do what everybody else is doing. Also don’t try to be different, people can tell when you’re trying. Just be you. We’re each unique in our own ways. If you just be you and do what you want, you’ll stand out as different. Hip Hop culture either in you or it’s not. You can’t improve on it. Rap is the music of Hip Hop culture. If the culture isn’t in you, you shouldn’t rap. I love raggae, but it’s not my culture. You don’t see me trying to be a raggae artist, or speak patois.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m open to working with producers with fire beats, and dope artists. Hit me on IG @ Purefected.Rap. I only work with great artists and producers, so if you’re not that, don’t waste your time or mine. Good isn’t good enough.
