We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Victoria Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Victoria below.
Hi Victoria, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my parents. Growing up my mother worked hard. She always had a job, maybe even 2. My dad was the same. Always working. He also dropped the following gem when I was about 11 years old “one day I’m not going to be here. You must listen to my guidance so even in my absence, you’ll be able to take care of yourself.” That pushed me to always operate with the mind of I’ve got to take care of myself. I have to keep going.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I absolutely love being a Business Consultant and Brand Manager. I get to be a part of the beginning stages of a business and watch it grow. I work closely with business owners to guide them through the rigorous path of entrepreneurship. As a Brand Manager I get to oversee the daily activities of a business. I’m on the executive board helping the CEO by handling the day-to-day operations so that they can focus on bigger items. Coming up I am working with SDK’s Cafe & Coffee in McDonough, GA. They will open March 2024. I am working on a faith based Women’s Conference called In Esther’s Chamber that will launch August 2024. The creator of the conference is so anointed and I know the attendees will get exactly what they need.
I’ve recently taken on a new client, Culinary Dynamics, who will put out one of the most innovative cookbooks you’ve ever seen. Stay tuned!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Mental toughness: If entrepreneurship was easy, everyone would do it. You have to keep your mind sharp to push through the tough days. Mental toughness will teach you to pivot instead of quitting.
Always be learning: What’s the saying “if you’re the smartest person in the room you’re in the wrong room.” I wholeheartedly believe that. I want to always learn something. Experience things I’ve never experienced. Read books written by people who are inspiring. Not just in business but your personal life too.
Enhanced Soft Skills: Being the “boss” requires more than money & power. Your soft skills will lead you to places your “boss” title will not. Focus closely on time management, networking, teamwork, creative thinking and conflict resolution.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
God, my small circle of friends and my business network have been the most helpful to me when times were hard. I take my faith very seriously and I run to God before I run my mouth to others. My closest friends are always praying for me. They each have different walks of life and will pour into me what they’ve learned/experienced and it will help me navigate the obstacles in front of me. Shout out to my sisters. My business network is the absolute best. They’ve been in the game between 10-20 years. Like my friend circle, they all have different businesses & different life paths but they’ve experienced a lot and they are never afraid to share the good, the bad and the unfortunate. Shout out to Susan & Kamal Dorsainville, Olori Swank, and Gocha Hawkins.
