Meet Amy Ouzoonian

We recently connected with Amy Ouzoonian and have shared our conversation below.

Amy, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience and strength is a result of survival. I owe a lot of my resilience to my family and colleagues, especially my partner and daughter.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Amy Ouzoonian is the CEO of MoodConnect, a business wellness consulting agency. MoodConnect measures the culture analytics of a business and will let you know how your team or even company is doing from a culture standpoint. MoodConnect is the Google Analytics for company culture. I love the work that I do in MoodConnect because we are a part of a movement to create healthier workspaces, to build a culture of care within workspaces that benefits all employees and creates a more equitable environment where businesses can thrive.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Since I have started my journey the three most important qualities that I have upheld in MoodConnect is to be humble, curious, and to put self-preservation above all else. If you are not feeling well, you can’t manage a company and you certainly can’t lead anyone. I have learned the hard way that persistence and consistency is the key, but you can’t do that if you are burning out.

Building MoodConnect taught me to believe in myself, that I can build a SaaS platform and not have a big head over that, be a mom, and become a developer who can iterate a product, build services that customers can enjoy and not question my abilities.

My best advice for founders, leaders, CEOs who are starting out is to not buy into the cliches that fall on builders. Imposter syndrome is a lie. You don’t have to ask for permission, you don’t have to be a rock star or come from a family of brilliant scientists to build tech, to invent, to launch something that you believe in and feel passionate about. All you need is the fire and a plan. Make sure you have a plan though, you can change it, iterate it, ditch it, adapt it, but make sure that you have a plan before you start. If your business plan is tight enough, you won’t need lots of money to start.

Also, you don’t have to give up if your business is not successful. If you love what you are doing in your journey, keep doing it. You don’t have to be the best at everything that you enjoy doing, but if you love what you do, you’ll do what you love and you’ll feel overwhelmed and burned out a lot less.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
MoodConnect is making culture analytics more accessible for HR, CEOs, and Wellness practitioners, we are always seeking to work with universities, businesses and individuals in the HR and Data Analytics space. Our mission is to help businesses to create healthier workspaces for themselves and future companies throughout the world.
