Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Merci Chrisette . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Merci, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
To be quite honest it definitely took a lot of life lessons, and experiences in order to feel confident enough within myself so that I can push through any obstacles that came my way. I had to realize that I am worthy enough to be successful. It took a lot of self healing, and although change is uncomfortable it can also be amazing. Now I have been running my own makeup company for three years and there’s so much more to come!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Merci and I am the CEO of M.V.M beauty. We are a makeup company that offers gorgeous products such as eyeshadow, lipglosses, lashes, and much more! I started this company in 2020, but before that I was a model in NYC. My number one passion has always been makeup so after modeling I became a makeup artist. When I would see the looks on peoples faces after I finished their glam it made me realize that I want to start my own brand that can have others feeling amazing inside and out.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think the three qualities you need to have as a business owner would be resilience, patience, and being a all-around good person. When you first start a business It usually takes time to get off the ground so resilience and patience is very important within the process. You must believe in what your building because what you believe in manifests into reality. Also, I believe when you are a good person it radiates through you and whatever you’re offering to others. The most important key is to believe in yourself.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
We always have an eye out for new makeup artists that may be interested in becoming a brand ambassador for our company.
