Meet Tephanie Delaney

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tephanie Delaney a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tephanie, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
I often share my journey and insights and try to contribute to a more inclusive environment.

I also try to stay committed to continuous learning and development while using my experiences to empower others.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my path, I’ve identified three pivotal insights that have shaped my growth. Firstly, I’ve learned to step into the spotlight and own my brilliance, no longer diminishing my talents and capabilities. Secondly, grasping the essence of branding has been crucial—understanding its power and how it defines the heartbeat of a business. Lastly, I’ve embraced the truth that success is not a destination but a voyage with no shortcuts.

I’ve learned to cherish this expedition, to chronicle the highs and lows, and to find joy in each step. I now see setbacks not as failures, but as invaluable lessons. With each hurdle, I gather wisdom to carry forward into future endeavors. The key is to apply these learnings diligently, allowing them to refine and guide my next move.

And above all, I hold onto my conviction, the belief in what I can achieve. Surrendering is not an option; I am committed to pursuing the potential I believe in, for myself and the future I am building.
That’s my advice.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Was the greatest gift my parents ever gave me teaching me to believe in myself? Absolutely. Seriously, my mom was the MVP in this department. She was always there, cheering me on, reminding me that the sky’s the limit if I just had a little faith. And let me tell you, she had this playlist of tunes that were a bit cheesy but totally uplifting.

She would always sing songs like ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow,’ ‘You’ll Never Know,’ and ‘If You Believe’ – that was her love language. But to this day, these songs are like the soundtrack of my confidence. I carry those melodies and their empowering messages in my heart. They’re a part of who I am and what I do. Believe it!
