MEet Nathan Wagner

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nathan Wagner. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nathan below.

Hi Nathan, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
It’s not uncommon for individuals in the voice-over industry to struggle with developing their self-esteem. I think that as actors and artists, we are often prone to comparing ourselves to others.

However, having a supportive and encouraging group of friends who celebrate each other’s achievements has been invaluable in building my confidence as a freelance voice actor. I believe that surrounding myself with a positive and uplifting community has made a significant difference in my professional journey, and I am incredibly grateful for all of the wonderful people, artists, instructors, and directors who have encouraged me along the way.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hey! I’m Nathan Wagner! I am a voice actor with lots of experience in video games, commercials, animation, audiobooks, and more! My love for acting and live performance began during my younger days as a theater kid, and I’ve used my theatrical background to build a voice acting career for myself. Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to star in and write for the critically acclaimed anthology horror series “Cabin Tales”. Additionally, I provided my voice talents for the educational children’s YouTube channel “Human Buddy”. I look forward to continuing to develop my craft and using my abilities to bring projects to life!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I believe that voice actors should always prioritize the craft of acting, not just their vocal range. It’s here that workshops and acting classes are essential to your growth as a well-rounded VA. Second, I believe that it is crucial to be kind and respectful to everyone you work with. Don’t be afraid to love cartoons, anime, games, and solid performances. Learn from the art that you love so that one day you can contribute to it. Lastly, I believe that voice actors should strive to build others up and recognize their accomplishments, not just their own. Create a supportive and inclusive community within the industry. Work to actively make the environment that you would want to work in.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I firmly believe that the meaningful connections I have made and the amazing people I have met throughout my journey have been instrumental in aiding my development as a voice actor. The invaluable instruction and mentorship I have received from veteran voice actors, such as Corina Boettger and Robert Gunton, alongside the opportunities I have had to learn from my highly talented peers, including my amazing girlfriend Brenna Thornton, have been a significant contributing factor to my decision to pursue voice acting as a career. I am grateful for the knowledge, insight, and encouragement I have received and will continue to make the most out of every learning experience as I strive to build a successful future as a voice actor.
